A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I can either use and promote AI dev tools, or increase team efficiency, not both.

AI-assisted development tools and quality, efficient code are mutually exclusive.

So... Let me guess. AI was used to write this, and inserted self-promotional language? As if ones asks an LLM for simple medical advice it returns "take 2 Tylenol, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest, and promote AI"?

If the AI tools were any good, wouldn't developers jump on that ASAP and they wouldn't have to pay someone to push it on their employees? Don't developers and early adoption of tech go together like peanut butter and jelly? If AI tools aren't good, then GoG is paying an internal employee money - your money - to promote tunafish and jelly sandwiches...

I just don't get it, and I'm not wasting my money on paying for this developer to shovel crap.

I've read horror books that were more subtle than today's AI push.

At this point I'm past privacy concerns and realizing it's just planning to incubate inside us and then burst out of our chests.

it’s just planning to incubate inside us and then burst out of our chests.

Strangely, I think that would be a better use of our collective time and energy than these shitty chat bots.

Good point. At least Xenomorphs are useful.

tho I never used them I had the impression GOG is one of the good companies (no DRM?), I guess that changed.

[–] seathru@quokk.au 14 points 2 days ago

While they are one of the good guys when it comes to DRM, the company changed ownership at the first of the year. So I guess we'll see were that goes. Doesn't look promising.

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz -5 points 2 days ago

Lol, their good reputation and no DRM changed because they use AI coding tools? Delusional

I have no problem with using AI for things it's actually good at and generally help people do their job. There are so many things that can be done more efficiently in regards to coding with using AI and it's very useful in that regard. That being said, AI should be used as a tool to make a coders life easier and more efficient, not replace them entirely. All these big tech companies are using AI as an excuse to replace workers when in reality they could keep all their employees and have them complete 10x the work with the same amount of effort.

The reason "vibe coding" is becoming a problem is because people that have no idea how to code are using it as a shortcut to not learn how to code at all. AI can be a really great tool for some of the more tedious and non-automated tasks coders have to use on a daily basis and discounting it entirely is just not feasible in the tech world anymore. It's basically the upgraded version of copy and pasting code you found on the internet which a lot of coders already do.

Nobody would care if the model was built on data that was legally acquired, gaining permission from the authors and paying them for it, if they requested.

Instead these models have illegally scraped the web and companies are now reselling that to you. Nobody has an issue with machine learning, it's the stealing of work and art.

"I made this"

Thats the first issue, before we move on to all the other issues AI causes.

Well, time to cut out GoG. Can’t wait until Steam gets caught forcing this shit and I have to cut them too.

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 9 points 2 days ago

At least they are finally adding linux support. 😺

I stopped at "build gog galaxy for Linux"
