i do not understand this reference or wtf is going on.
In the manga berserk Griffith (who is Trump in this) uses an evil artifact to summon demon gods, he's badly wounded and enfeebled, in exchange for his comrades life (his maga base) the demon gods will bless him with a new body and the power to become king, so Griffith says hells yea and his friends all die painful deaths getting eaten by monsters.

If you're into dark fantasy, Berserk is great, easy to read too.
Easy to read
Berserk is well written with recognizable themes, a deeply consistent internal philosophy, compelling characters, and a extreme highs and lows. Not to mention Kentaro Miura is one of the greatest visual artist/story teller of his generation.
But nothing about Berserk is easy. I can't recommend this to anyone unless I know them really well.
I will always remember Berserk for the line guts yells in the outtakes on the anime dvd.
"Who wants to jerk me off!" The whole band of the jerk off boys (hawk) raise their hands and yell in response to the affirmative.
Sorry I meant easy to read, literally, since sometimes I struggle with comics that are verbose (big reason why I can't do old comics with huge text boxes, I think I have a reading disability, but I digress) the themes though are pretty heavy like you said. Thankfully we have chestnut Puck when shit gets too bleak.

The Berk ref really doesn't work because Trump is already king of Midland. He sold his comrades out in the eclipse years ago when he was wheeling and dealing in real estate. Plus he's not a commoner like Griffith was (and a war hero).

I know it's a silly detail to focus on, but this event in Berserk is literally called "the Eclipse," prominently featuring an eclipse in many panels, and here it's like a blood moon or a harvest moon and I don't really see why that would be.
