Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. It's not a trap, this is where the fun begins.

IMPORTANT

Please do not post the "good friend" or similar copypasta

==========

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

He goes on to chop his limbs off and recreate the Invincible meme "Think, Anakin, THINK!"

Obi wan, according to the non-canon prequels and non-canon Disney series, shares a lot of the blame for the state of the Galaxy at the time of the empire, having wasted not one but two chances to kill Palpatine's enforcer.

As much as I liked the "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did" scene from the Obi-Wan show, it really makes Obi-Wan look like a proper fuckup for fully acknowledging that Anakin is dead and Vader is all that remains, and that Vader is an unrepentant murderous asshole who serves the Emperor, and still refusing to kill him and instead walking away.

Like, once on Mustaphar I can kind of get; it's a highly emotional moment and all, and for all you know Anakin is going to roast to death in a couple of minutes anyway. But letting Vader live twice?! That's just bad future-planning, man.

I mean Darth Maul had the high ground…

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Did he? I thought they were on flat ground. Am I remembering that wrong. I really don’t want to watch any of those movies again.

Obi-wan was pushed down the shaft by Maul, holding on to something and had to force jump out of it while force pulling his lightsaber. He was in a much wirse position than Anakin before they each attacked.

Anakins move is the same one Obi Wan did to Maul. Obi Wan saw it coming because it's his move.

Rebels spoilerHe did this again when he finally kills Maul. He lures Maul into doing the same move that killed Qui Gon. He then counters it perfectly because he sees it coming.

Every moment of the "Duel of the fates" stayed with Obi Wan through his life.

while force pulling his lightsaber

If you know what I mean

Oh my, so perfect, thank you for this

Didn't laugh this hard for a while

That’s right! But he was also closer, and in a do or die situation. He had nothing to lose. Anakin, on the other hand… pun intended.

Obi-wan had only one way which should have made it even easier for Maul to predict and defend.

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Fair point.

Clearly Obi-Wan is the master of the High Ground. He knows its strengths and weaknesses as second nature enough to exploit as he needed.

Anakin and Maul had no chance.

*edit To add: Obi-Wan gets caught in a fight on flat ground in front of Luke? Just gives up.

Love and familial attachment is forbidden by the jedi, so loving him like a brother says his opinion of Anakin is that he's garbage

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

There were three Star Wars movies, and none of them were even as good as the Mel Brooks parody.

Obi Wan Kenobi condemned thousands of souls to a pointless avoidable death by not force pulling Anakin's single limbed body back up the slope and amputating his head. Or his torso.

You'd think that would be a thing only rage would make you do, but Obi Wan's emotions were his weakness here, that he still harbored affection when a Jedi is SUPPOSED to be cold, dispassionate, and disciplined.

Euthanizing a being infected with Sith influence - especially if it is to the point that their obsession has cost them essentially EVERYTHING - is an objectively moral act of benevolence.

His mind, so clouded by emotion, PROLONGED Anakin's suffering. Letting someone burn alive is excessively cruel which is, unsurprisingly, bad, ACTUALLY. The ideal jedi would have ended the crippled and suffering Sith Thrall without further torturing it. As painlessly as possible. Perhaps even administering a heavy dose of painkiller from a medkit if they are carrying one (which they SHOULD be) so that the Sith Drone is lost in a haze of euphoria and not even aware of reality anymore when its head is separated from its body.

For good measure, it would be appropriate to entirely destroy the head OR to bring the head back with you so its brain can be studied; perhaps the Galaxy would benefit from a greater understanding of how Sith infection ravages the brain.

It needed to be said, and it was a long time coming.

Isn't the high ground a bad place to be in a sword fight?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it's easier to swing down than up. Gravity is working against your opponent, they'll be moving slower and be working harder just to move towards you

[–] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

You lose reach when you're swordfighting if you have the high ground, and reach is a much more significant advantage. It's also far easier to guard your head than it is to guard your ankles. Given the choice between the two, I'd take the low ground.

This changes significantly with mixed arms. If you have spears, you want the high ground. If you have bows, you REALLY want the high ground. If you're duelling someone, sword to sword, you do NOT want the high ground. And this is the voice of personal experience.

When you're duelling, what you actually want is the sun at your back, and solid ground behind you - and for your opponent to be on uneven ground, without good options to back up safely, and the sun in their eyes.

Anakin could have just used the force to pull Obi forward off his high ground and into the liquid hot magma so either he really didn't wanna kill him or he was, in fact, stupid. 🤷‍♂️
