Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"Guards allegedly refused to deliver food to sick people and would pay some detainees with a bag of chips for a day’s work. If the person refused, they would be sent to solitary, according to the report. "

WTF!!!

These will become impossible to deny as concentration camps. The regime must be prosecuted like Nuremberg. Let’s not forget that.

[–] PumpkinSkink@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Lets also not forget that Nuremberg was woefully inadequate and failed to push Nazi collaborators out of power.

"The Nuremberg trials could try only a small sampling of major Nazi war criminals. German restitution negotiations were bound to have an unhappy ending, since no payments could possibly erase the harm or painful memories. No problems related to the Holocaust could be resolved quickly or adequately. Nor could they be swept under the carpet and be expected to disappear." ~Benjamin B. Ferencz, Chief Prosecutor of the US Army for the Einsatzgruppen Trial"

I genuinely worry that trump will just drop dead before he faces justice for all the heinous shit hes done. He’ll die without facing any accountability for anything.

The fact that he’s not rotting in prison for the rest of his life after 1/6 is such a fucking miscarriage of justice

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hitler killed himself to avoid prosecution, that didn't stop the prosecution of other people who participated or followed his orders.

[–] Wammityblam@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Sure, and I know that will happen, but I want the people at the top to face justice too.

Any justice is better than none, but I want the architects behind bars.

And to clarify, I don’t even think it will get to the point where Trump offs himself, I just think he is a very sick old man who is showing concerning medical signs.

Many more fled to Argentina

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

well as i understand it, concentration camps are defined as places you concentrate "undesirables" to get them out of society while you figure out what to do with them long term.

like, definitionally, we're undeniably already there. the first nazi camps were supposed to be deportation camps too.

problem is no country will actually let you dump people on them like that. the only truly viable long term answer for this kind of plan is to kill them in the end. however, that's distasteful, so they usual end up staying there until they all starve because at least then no one had to give the order to kill.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They're already impossible to deny as concentration camps, and we're only a few months away from (Spoilers for 2026 ahead, stop reading here) being undeniably death camps.

[–] orlyowl@piefed.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

They’re already impossible to deny as concentration camps,

The media needs to start calling them that before it will make it into the consciousness of the vast majority of people who aren't paying as much attention as we are.

I keep waiting for the first major media outlet to have the courage to do so, but I suspect it's going to get a lot worse before I get my wish.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 day ago

We CANT do that because THEN Human Rights will look POLITICAL!

-Democrats!

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can only imagine how satisfying it was for the world to watch the Nuremberg trials unfold and Nazis get hung or shot.

I really hope we get ours.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I wonder how the “good” Germans who didn’t support Hitler but also just showed up every couple of months for a few hours to protest the concentration camps when and where the Nazis said they could felt after the trials. Totally vindicated in their inaction in the face of pure evil I’m sure.

[–] meep_launcher@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe somewhere between Nuremberg and what happened to Gaddafi.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Gaddafi

Mmmmm. Butt stab.

If I found a genie lamp, can anyone tell me a single reason why I shouldn't wish every single ICE officer (including Noem) a sudden, drawn out, publically documented, and tortuously agonizing death?

And by "drawn out", I mean long enough to the point where people are watching them stumble around screaming in the streets while pointing and eating popcorn.

Oh and somehow ambulance and hospitals somehow won't be available to them.

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Instant death is less cruel and also doesn't give them time to carry out any spiteful revenge killings in their final moments.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, I can.

You're being too narrow with your wish - you could include Epstein clients too, for example.

(This is only an issue with the popular "3 wishes only" genie, tho. If your genie gives you unlimited wishes, by all means, wish away.)

[–] oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh I have different plans for them.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Fair enough.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Any chance there's a sign somewhere nearby telling them that work will set them free?

"Arby's Makes Fries" is probably the closest thing they've got.

[–] sveltecider@lemmy.ca 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

How could anyone deny these are concentration camps?

Same people that deny that the US invented concentration camps to deal with the natives

They are taking our jobs! Let's put them to work!

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 17 points 1 day ago
  • A persistent failure to adequately treat inmates’ health issues with medicine beyond a single dose of Ibuprofen
  • A proliferation of diagnoses for serious mental health conditions like schizophrenia that inmates had never suffered from before *
  • An overall lack of sufficient calories and vegetables
  • Verbal and physical abuse by guards
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Forced labor

* That's the worst one IMO. They want to make these people disappear even if their fascist takeover does not go quite as planned. It's planned. A failsafe. They go to the effort of "encouraging" doctors or even hiring those they know will do their bidding.

[–] JamieDub86@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago

Weve seen this before, somewhere...

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As soon as the fight against fascism passed out of living memory, they go and try it again

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

It s not out of living memory yet.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

18 fucking dollars for a can of chicken?!??!

[–] DandomRude@piefed.social 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

All too typical: slave labor! Not much has really changed in the land of the free (white men).

Edit: It seems that many US citizens are unaware of this, but this is nothing new in the States: the majority of prisons in the US are run as private enterprises (and yes, they do put people to work for almost nothing and not just since Trump), which for obvious reasons is not the case in any other democratic country - at least not to this extent and with this level of absurdity. It goes without saying that the insanely inflated ICE budget, which under Trump exceeds that of all other agencies, such as the FBI and CIA, many times over, essentially benefits MAGA collaborators such as the Geo Group, one of the largest private prison corporations. But hey, that's just an added bonus that the orange pedo is giving his co-conspirators at the expense of US citizens, because the real goal is obviously to build a secret police force that is loyal only to him - and, as I said, it has a budget that dwarfs all other agencies, even combined.

[–] remedia@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

Arbeit macht frei. Again.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I mean, that was the plan all along.

Trump’s gonna make them start assembling Tomahawk and Patriot battery missiles next.

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 6 points 1 day ago

I'm sure everyone will be freed eventually, if they work hard enough.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 6 points 1 day ago
