I think if the people killed were predominantly security forces and innocent bystanders that would have been emphasized a lot more by state media, and it would have been cast as a terror attack instead of insurrection.

I made a mistake with an acquaintance who is a fan of the show. I thought I could connect from a lefty perspective and brought up how aggressive US foreign policy (incl NATO and the MIC) makes everyone less safe (including in the imperial core) and how it sucks that the Ukrainian working class had to take a meat grinder to the face because of it.
Learned my lesson when I got an earful about how actually Ukraine is actually cooking the aggressive Russian invaders right now and the world is more peaceful under US hegemony than it's ever been. That was like 2 years ago I think.

I watched a lot of reactions to the massacre. The two most common comparisons people drew were Gaza (genocide) and the maidan false flag snipers specifically. It didn’t take much for people to see empire as Russia. Tragic tbh, truly a show for 🇺🇦 🇵🇸 posters

With fiction people see what they want to see. Maybe that's in part a product of the destruction of media literacy both functionally and ideologically ("the curtains are blue!"), and it's partially the fact that writers are libs and even when they're writing something ostensibly anti-imperialist they can't help but code their fictional Empire with aspects of The Other as the real-world empire depicts them, but regardless of the reason the end result in our current moment is that satire and critique will never change anyone's mind about anything.
The best you can hope for is to already be on a journey towards anti-imperialism for other reasons, and to connect with a show about it because it makes those concepts seem a lot more clear.

After watching Mandalorian I got really disenchanted with the Star Wars franchise after being a life long fan. Is Andor worth watching?
Yes. Especially if you're a life long Star Wars fan. It's the single best piece of Star Wars visual media since the original trilogy.

Id say it's the best star wars media. It makes even the original trilogy pale in comparison when it comes to all the things that make me like star wars - Scrappy rebels, political allegory, charming rogues, pew pews, sci fi spirituality, stunning and slightly alien vistas, fascinating world building, and so on. It's just so good.

Andor is worth watching even if you don't care about or even hate Star Wars. Until the second half of the second season it could pretty much be any sci-fi setting. It still has lib bits but any Marxist will appreciate a lot of it.
I haven't paid attention to any of the new Star Wars content post the prequels (2000s), not watched a bit of it but I watched this on a recommendation and it was absolutely worth it. It has a permanent place in my media collection now.
