Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I don't understand the purpose of so many restrictive policies. Very overbearing to have a government like that

[–] Rusticus@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

This is simply a fuck you to the rest of the world. “We care so little about climate change that we’re going to intentionally make it worse”

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

I need Temu Trump removed from power asp.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

HB 1217 also prevents local governments from purchasing items such as vehicles or appliances based on the fuels they use

Technically this allows for malicious compliance "actually we wanted to buy a gas powered engine but the law didn't allow us to specify the fuel"

[–] Karjalan@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

I mean... EVs don't use fuel?

All in all, wtf is even the point of this? You have to assume some fuel people gave him money.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Making it illegal to be efficient. Perfect example of why the US is too dumb to continue to exist.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 17 hours ago

Namely the Republican party. Their opponents have problems too but let's be honest here, things would start looking a lot better.

[–] Loce@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

I mean... Sooner or later cat 5 will struck again, they don't seem to give a shit...

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So now communities just have to pursue net-negative emissions goals?

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Let me know when we can start trading pollution futures. Ideally I can make money by dumping chemicals into a specific reflecting pool.

Nvm, that's just "prediction" markets. Fuck me. I try to make a joke about how ridiculous this reality is by being even more absurd - and it's already a reality. This is why satire is dead.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Makes no fucking sense. Also this lame ass "government" shouldn't be even allowed to dictate this shit to businesses.

All I can think of is coal lobbyists paying for this shit to happen. Fuck you all; wish you the worst.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 17 hours ago

gas/oil lobbyist, adding the largest gas station on earth is funding these governments.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

But where can there be coal in Floriduh?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Why? What the hell is the problem if they want to?

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Net zero? Ok, just pursue negative emissions

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago

Florida loves banning things. I don't know how Floridians can handle so much Freedom

[–] modernangel@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

if all the icecaps and glaciers melt, which they currently are, Florida is going the way of Atlantis. Never mind making liberal heads explode or throwing marginalized outgroup profiles in prison for fun and profit; you'd think sheer simple self-preservation would mean something.

The mouth breathers either don't believe in global warming, or don't care because they figure they'll be dead by the time the bill comes due. Basically the classic conservative take of "fuck you, I got mine".

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

or don’t care because they figure they’ll be dead by the time the bill comes due

I don't get people who think like that. Don't they have kids, grandkids? They might not have to suffer the consequences, but their descendants do.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

but atlantis can survive underwater, and can fly to another galaxy. florida is going to become a seafloor soon, if not the various invasive species taking over florida. Plus the MOUSE is whats keeping florida upfloat, both directly and indirectly.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

According to Ben Shapiro they can just sell their houses.

From the bill:

"Net zero policy" means any policy, program, or initiative designed to achieve a balance between total amount of greenhouse gas emitted into the atmosphere with an equal amount removed from the atmosphere.

It really is the exact sort of dumb you can weasel out of. "Our program seeks to be carbon negative" is not net-zero, nor is just setting one of the intermediate goal points as the goal (e.g., instead of net-zero by 2050, 50% reduction by 2035). There are some specific restrictions about cap and trade policies and taxes based on carbon content though, so it's not just the net-zero restriction.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 17 hours ago

Lol Florida

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 17 hours ago

desantis, you never had a chance at the presidency, never will. stop trying.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Heh, malicious compliance time: time for net-negative emissions goals 🤪

Florida-stupid

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There's gotta be some kinda German word for what Florida represents.

horrifyinglyembarrassingexcrementeken.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Actually, the word is Italian: Fascista

[–] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I don’t know one that sums up Florida, but I know one that sums up how I feel about Florida: Fremdschämen.

Edit: Actually, I guess we could just add Höllenloch to it and get what you were trying to say: Fremdschämenshöllenloch or Vicariously embarrassing hell hole. I’m sure someone whose German is much, much better than mine will breeze through here and correct me.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

America and their governments get dumber by the minute. It is amazing how much stupidity one can cast into a law, being blinded by ideology (or better, idiocity).

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Just waiting patiently for Florida to sink into the sea.
