Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

katy perrier, is that anything?

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 31 points 5 days ago

"Soda pop music", maybe. We're close here.

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago

Katy Polyethylene

Really rolls off the tongue.

I've gone my whole life without ever wondering what it would be like to crowd surf in a giant hamster ball, but now I can't stop thinking about it

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 43 points 5 days ago (2 children)

crowd surfing is always a little dangerous, that's part of what makes it cool, like riding a motorcycle or smoking. anyway it looks like nothing bad happened besides the show going off script for a minute.

[–] fox@hexbear.net 24 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That guitarist had to rip together like a solid 5 minute solo though

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago

Yeah dud killed it.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago

I'd be a bit scared of overheating in that thing

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 32 points 5 days ago (2 children)

This is my new pick for what we should do to reactionary media figures. It just feels so humane. Like when you find a gross bug and scoop it up with a plastic cup and a paper towel to dump it outside.

[–] hotspur@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago

I’m getting so much joy imagining a coupon of folks like this now, o7

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago

Often those bigs are adapted to living in human houses and you're just killing them less directly

Tbh I can imagine this idea likely started somewhere along the lines of "how do I crowdsurf without getting sexually assaulted 74 times in one minute" so I kinda feel for her from that perspective

But the end result is still fucking hilarious emilie-shrug

[–] MeetMeAtTheMovies@hexbear.net 29 points 5 days ago

Damn I thought this was the onion

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 26 points 5 days ago

Maybe trusting a crowd of drunk people and teenagers to direct your giant blowup prop correctly was a bad idea.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 20 points 5 days ago

I'm minorly annoyed that it's shaped like a plastic bottle with a cap, but she enters and exits it from the bottom

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I checked the comm three times because I wanted to be sure I wouldn't get got

[–] christian@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago

Same here, but in retrospect this headline is too silly to be satire.

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 24 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you're going to do a stunt like this you'd better be 100% sure it goes to plan. It just turns to cringe.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago

Or just be bold/goofy enough to embrace it.

Link directly to YouTube video

edit: probably the most fun that guitarist has had all tour

Improv skills on frigging point, damn

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago

Don't see that every day.

Sending out an SOS

[–] whatdoiputhere12@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago

do you ever feel, like a plastic…..bottle?

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I don't see it. The video is like 2m30 taking her away from the stage, then she asks to be returned, the bottle stops and changes direction back to the stage within 15-20 seconds and she is back to the stage in a similar travel time.

This went about as good as it could have

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

pretty top tier headline tbh

[–] hotspur@hexbear.net 8 points 5 days ago

Yeah, amazing

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Too bad they didn't roll her out to the freeway

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Or into a comically large recycle bin

[–] rubber_chicken@hexbear.net 4 points 5 days ago

I hear she's an outer space enthusiast.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Remember when she was on the Simpsons and got eaten out by a puppet version of Moe?

[–] rubber_chicken@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The Simpsons turned into hardcore porn so gradually that I never noticed.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm not making this up in even the slightest, it is a literal description of a real scene:

Is this James Hetfield?

[–] wax@feddit.nu 8 points 4 days ago

Now that's what I call high quality CO2

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago

If I was there I'd be shaking my hands in the air and singing 'Take me back to the stage!' like it's part of the song, lol

[–] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 6 points 5 days ago

I was watching a bunch of Superbowl half time shows a while back to compare and Katy Perry had the most tacky and artless presentation by far.

[–] bless@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

Wasn't this the music event taking place in the middle of rolling blackouts in the area?
