Yasuke was a real guy. Rascists are once again mad that reality exists and proves them wrong.

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ah but the samurai council did not grant him the rank of samurai in real life. smuglord

[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

He was merely an armed retainer, not a samurai.

Ignore that samurai literally means retainer, that is entirely irrelevant.

[–] bumpusoot@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

He was granted a seat at the samurai council, but they did not grant him the title of samurai anakin-padme-1

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Yasuke was made up by the shogun who was being controlled by the jews.

Game set in the Caribbean? Play as a welshman.

They are saying the quiet part out loud!

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Also wasn't a big chunk of AC Valhalla playing as a Norse invader in England? Idk that game was so dog shit I couldn't get past that chapter.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The english had it coming, what with being english and all

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

For me, the magic sauce missing from Valhalla was the sense of living in and seeing an ancient civilization we'll never see again.

I could still stomp around in an English bog now and it probably wouldn't look all that different

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Almost all of Valhalla was in England, because you're operating as a raiding party. That's the entire framing device. These people don't even play the games that they're losing their minds about.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

not a large portion of it, almost all of it

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

they are saying what part out loud?

I know the twitter guy is racist and hating the fact that Yasuke is the protagonist, but what does that sentence even mean

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If the Japanese game has a protagonist who is Japanese, then maybe it's that White Nationalist slogan of "Germany for the Germans", "Japan for the Japanese", and so on? That typical anti-internationalist, anti-miscegenation position.

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mean that's what the twitter nazi is about, but it doesn't make sense in the tweet's context: he implies that ubisoft is saying something out loud and I just don't get it

[–] Moonworm@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I think there's some nonsense going around that, I don't know, "Big Woke"? doesn't like Japan because Japanese developers are still based and boob-pilled. I mean it's confused and asinine and a game of loosely associating whatever shit is in front of you, but I think that's the underlying stuff. They won't let you play as a Japanese man because Japan isn't woke enough, which makes them racist and hypocrites. If I had to guess why they can rationalize being able to play as Norse, for instance, which probably isn't woke, it's probably because Japanese vs. Western devs is a sort of current issue for these gamergooners, so the choice to make the protagonist a Black man instead of Japanese can be contextualized into this ongoing struggle. Which is like, double fucking nonsense because the decision was probably made years ago.

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

damn, I am way out of the loop

thanks for the primer, comrade

[–] viva_la_juche@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I honestly think the simplest answer if he’s doing what right wingers do sometimes which is appropriate a common left critique of the right but without any of its context that makes it make sense bc they’re baby brained dipshits that can’t understand they’re trying to force a square peg in a round hole. I see them do it all the time

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Isn't the ninja Japanese?

But she's a woman, which is horrifying

[–] regul@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You'll notice they said:

game set in greece, play as a greek man

True sickos out there playing as Alexios and not Kassandra.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

Especially since Kassandra is the Canon protagonist

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

Combining misogyny and anti-blackness! chefs-kiss

[–] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought gamers liked it when there are hot Japanese women in their games

[–] SSJ2Marx@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Hell, hot Japanese ninja women are a trope all by themselves.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Is he... Is he accusing Ubisoft of being Hoteps who think that samurai were black? Truly a bizzare thing to say.

[–] GrumpigPoopBalls@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I will buy an Assassin's Creed game for the first time in over a decade if the ultimate villain/leader of the templars is revealed to be Yakub

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Close, in the last game it was revealed the founder of the Templar Order was none other than......

spoilerAlfred the Great, dun, dun, DUUN! Mr. King Anglo-Saxon himself

Oh, ok, I was under the impression that DEI was some cringeworthy new slang for angry gamers to use as criticism.

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

It kind of is tho. Right wing weirdos are using it negatively the same way they use woke.

[–] DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh your right-wing spidey sense is functioning correctly. DEI is the new right wing dog whistle.

1980s- Commie

1990s- Politically Correct

2000s- SJW

2010s- Woke

2020s- DEI

[–] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Can we please go back to commie

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

No way SJW is 2000s, it is more like 2012-2016 or so, then it's "woke" up until like 2022, "DEI" as a scarecrow is 2 years old tops.

I wish these people would touch-grass for once in their pathetic lives

[–] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don’t think he’s even the main character. The main character is the female ninja which gamers seem to also foam at the mouth. But I guess ninjas are historically accurate now. If you look in the trailer comments, you’ll see a bunch of losers who are declaring their courageous refusal to pre order a shitty game because of muh diversity

I’m curious if anyone’s ever studied the weird Madonna-whore complex that gamers have. I don’t even know if you can classify it as that, because MWC usually involves putting someone on a pedestal but gamers will freak out about one game not having hot girls then in the very next game decry the game for having hot girls. I don’t get it.
