From the Atlanta Daily World:

Some Republicans in Georgia continue to contest the 2020 election. This week, the Republican-led Georgia Election Board called for a reinvestigation into the 2020 Presidential Election.  Multiple investigations have already proven that President Joe Biden earned more votes in Georgia than Donald Trump in 2020. However, Trump and his defenders have continued to deny the … Continued

Because money

So, if they conclude that this is true, then Trump has been president for the past 4 years and is ineligible to run in 2024.

Georgia has 16 electoral votes. Even if Georgia flipped, Biden would still have won 290-248.

I will not be swayed by numbers or the truth.

Why do something useful with taxpayer dollars when we can waste it on stupid shit that no longer even matters?

[-] grue@lemmy.world 29 points 4 months ago

Y'all are missing the point of what they're doing here. They're ramping up the FUD now in order to erode public trust in preparation for claiming fraud and declaring Trump the winner in November regardless of what the actual votes are. Even if that fails, they would still succeed in punting the issue to the court system, where the corrupt SCOTUS will rule in Trump's favor. It'll be like Bush v. Gore again, except this time the GOP's legal team -- Roberts, Kavanaugh and Barrett -- will also be deciding the case.

As a Georgian -- and particularly, as one in a blue county -- my confidence that my vote will be counted and that the results will be accurately transmitted to Congress is plummeting by the second. This isn't a "hurr durr look at the delusional Republicans trying to lose again" thing; this is a credible threat. Non-traitors need to be organizing and developing countermeasures against it, not just putting our faith in the integrity of a vote that they are telegraphing their intent to subvert.

All of these political theatrics are the death spiral of our country. We will continue to slip in all metrics as long as the forefront of politics is all identity and hate. We need focus on policies and real reforms. The Olympics was fucken terrible this year, and its because all of our citizens are stressed to the bone with how our society is. A society that purely serves corporate interests will be stripped clean of all "value", just like they do to smaller companies.

[-] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 9 points 4 months ago

The Olympics is not "terrible" this year, lol. And it isn't over, what do you mean "was"?

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

I guess I should reword that, USA's performance has been meh this year so far is what I meant.

[-] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Not really, not compared to Tokyo anyway. 1 fewer gold medals, but 1 more silver and 9 more bronze medals.

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

What we can do as a society is to call this behaviour out as weird.

[-] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

This more criminal than weird. At the very least it’s an irresponsible use of tax money. But it’s close to election fraud. Or testing how close to election fraud they can get away with.

[-] mokus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago

I’ve never paid attention to the Olympics. What’s terrible about it this year?

[-] kescusay@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

If it goes like the other recounts, they'll end up finding more votes for Biden.

[-] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago

They should be sent to jail
