Negro Matapacos (“Cop-Killer Blackie”) was a famous stray dog from thestreets of Santiago who joined student protests across the city from 2010, and in particular during the 2011 movement for free education.

he was a stray dog from the streets of Santiago, and began joining student demonstrations in 2010. The following year, one of the biggest social movements since the fall of the military dictatorship began, fighting for free education and against neoliberal reforms to the education system.

Negro Matapacos was then seen regularly at every demonstration, defying tear gas and water cannons and always barking at or attacking only the riot police, and never any students or rioters. He subsequently continued to appear sporadically at future demonstrations, and hung out on university campuses, becoming beloved to student and radical movements as a symbol of resistance to violent authority.

His last days were spent resting with people who took him in, with a crowdfunded veterinarian.

Some people who knew him sent us some of their memories of him, telling us how he defied tear gas and water cannons, and only ever barked at or attacked police officers, and never students or rioters.

After his death, his legacy lives on in songs, street murals, an award-winning documentary and in the memories of all those who knew him. He was a good boy.

People just casually saying "oh yeah twitter is the way it is because RuZZian Oligarchs are shareholds because who else would want to control speeeeeeeech!" Like bro that's capitalism. That's literally just capitalism. Do you think the us-foreign-policy American oligarchs are any less concerned with shaping speech on the platform?.

The way Russia has somehow tricked Americans in to doing the exact things America has always done and wanted to do is very impressive. These days when Russia comes up I leave the conversation bc i cannot deal with this racist conspiracy shit anymore.

I've been complaining to myself and family about my depression, my frustrations trying to treat it, and various life stressors, had actually typed a long post in this thread doing the same but wtf like they were launching a truly organized and large scale invasion of the West Bank as I was typing that. Also in my own country:

Half of the 200+ responses are essentially just "same", this is reddit mind you, not really known as a hub for the 65+ crowd. I follow that sub and it's 95% people under 30...

I realize that "other people have it worse" is usually wrong thinking when you are struggling but idk imma try and spin that into "I really am privileged and I will try to be grateful and at the very least I vow somehow to use that privilege to do something, anything, to make the world better, I owe it to my family for one thing and I just despise suffering and most of the suffering is happening outside my own head. Period."

Pretty sure I have COVID, never got it until now and I thought I’d be one of the lucky few to get away Scott free.

Also sucks because I JUST got my 200 bench pr and when I get sick (which is often), my bench drops a good 20 lbs.

Oh, and my seasonal job ends so I’m back to my high ranking position in the reserve army of labor again. Fun.

EDIT: It’s not COVID, so my COVID dodging streak is still intact, but I’ll still make sure to be extra careful to not get it.

It's really funny to pretend you don't know what DEI is to a culture warrior complaining about it. "What does DEI stand for?" "Wait, why is that bad?"

Does anybody work in a cutthroat grindset work environment? I tried for so long to be chill but everybody on my team is obsessed with hustling their career and stepping on me and now I'm gonna have to start playing a lot of office politics just to not get pushed out because everybody here's a fucking dweeb and the other alternative is to prioritize my job over everything else in my life like everybody else which I am not doing

Dumb ass fucking manager always asking why people never go to social events or talk about their personal lives in meetings when everybody just views their coworkers as tools for their performance ratings/promotion packages including the manager themselves

In New Vegas wouldn't it make more sense if even people outside of Caesars legion pronounced it Kaiser? It's not likely there's particularly high literacy and it being 200 years into the apocalypse the salad is long gone and the average dude isn't reading up on Rome in any capacity. Wouldn't they just repeat it the way they heard it said?

Started having a horrible TMJ episode today and I just couldn't deal with it, my teeth and my jaw feel so uncomfortable right now.

Everything to do with the USA's own Imperial Backyard. From hispanics to the originary peoples of the americas to the diasporas, South America to Central America, to the Caribbean to North America (yes, we're also there).

Post memes, art, articles, questions, anything you'd like as long as it's about Latin America. Try to tag your posts with the language used, check the tags used above for reference (and don't forget to put some lime and salt to it).

Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.
