moichendaising cool-zone

Also... fuck, has it been 4+ years this place has been around? My sense of time is turbo fucked...

Back in my days we used to post ppb links and emojis to wreckers and the Silver Legion because we didn't have this new fangled images in comments tech. (we did but for only like the first week or so)

We'd hide a picture of John Kerry in the pigs ass crack, as was the fashion at the time

[-] Crucible@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

Man, this unlocked a Proustian memory of Kerryposting

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

I got here about a year after the site was created and as a result I missed all the silver legion stuff and for the longest time I thought the silver legion stuff was a reference to the Silver Legion of America, aka the Silver Shirts, an American esoteric fascist organization that was active in the lead up to ww2.

[-] Babs@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

I think that was the intent, but silver-legion is way funnier.

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Oh, yeah I could see the original troll self-aggrandizing in that way (although the original silver shirts are in fact, extremely embarrassing) and then getting turned into a Nate Silver joke.

[-] polskilumalo@lemmygrad.ml 38 points 1 month ago

Most of these are graveyards of deleted comments :(

Would really, really love to read this stuff in it's full proper form...

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 51 points 1 month ago

As someone that was around back then: you really don't want to

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

Some of it has been archived on the waybackmachine. Don't know why, but sometimes you can find the threads there

[-] PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

Please note that I am in many of these threads and my take is always flawless

[-] jack@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

The power of dialectical materialism

[-] jack@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago

Hell yeah, that thread was great. Early chacha was much more like r/cth politically, meaning it was more demsoc and anarchist than the 90% ML space it is today. So I'd say that was an extremely productive struggle session.

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah it was fun looking thru those old threads too. Fun to see how the vibe has changed. It must be nice to always have been correct

edit: some things never change though

I miss quillquote. And lots of others. Come back comradeskitty-cri

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I got a DM from quillquote some time after he stopped posting, so I think he might be lurking from time to time.
When I stop posting just know I will still be lurking

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I expanded the image, tried to click the upbear button image which collapsed it. Then did that again twice before realising what I was doing. Thanks for resharing these, look forward to reading through cos they mainly were from before I joined

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

Where are the rocks pillars and the door cats?

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Much later. Tried to find some of the lesser known and earlier sessions.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Speaking of which, is the downvote wars and the cha-cha renaming spat would be two fun ones to rediscover

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

I considered including them, but there wasn't one single large thread I could post.
If you sort by controversial then they show up very quickly

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

In retrospect I can't believe people were willing to argue about rock pillars

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

They really wanted to stack rocks. And also argue against the general "take nothing but pictures, leave no traces" approach you're told to have for nature.
Lots of contrarians

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 month ago

Not wanting to date trans women is transphobic

I clicked that and had to scroll down to see a comment not deleted by mod or person commenting. Must have been intense session.

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I don't remember a lot of it, but I remember some people being big mad

Wow these are like deep-nesting deep-nesting + at times

Wasn't around for any of it, but I'm glad that it happened, it looks like it made the site a better place.

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

They were after the removal of downvotes, so harder to find

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Seeing the pronouns thread was a good reminder of why I don't like downvotes, but also

hi I don't have an opinion ill just put my pronouns because even if it makes 1 person slightly happier its worth it

oh yeah
