Théophile Ferré was a leader of the Paris Commune who was executed by the French government on this day in 1871. Ferré personally authorized the execution of the archbishop of Paris and was the first of 25 Communards to be executed.

Little is known about Ferré's early life, before his participation in the Paris Commune. After Paris was seized by revolutionaries in March 1871, Ferré served on the Commune's Committee of Public Safety, a body given extensive powers to hunt down enemies of the Commune.

On April 5th, the Commune passed a decree that authorized the arrest of any person thought to be loyal to the French government in Versailles, to be held as hostages. Prominent figures arrested included a Catholic priest Georges Darboy and the archbishop of Paris. The Commune hoped to exchange their hostages for Louis-Auguste Blanqui, a revolutionary and honorary President of the Commune, imprisoned by the state.

Following the events of the "Bloody Week", in which the French government summarily executed many suspected Communards, Ferré authorized the execution of several hostages, including Darboy and the archbishop.

After the resistance of the Commune collapsed, Ferré was captured by the army, tried by a military court, and sentenced to death. On November 28th, 1871, he was shot at Satory, an army camp southwest of Versailles. He was the first of twenty-five Communards to be executed for their role in the Paris Commune.

I just experienced Spotify doing something weirdly racist with AI, I guess?

I’ve been listening to top hits of random countries for vibes lately. Like what is Kazakhstan's pop like?

As a result my algorithm suggested just for me a playlist it had created called Ethiopian jazz and I was like I normally ignore you but cool I’ll try that.

And I’m enjoying it, but why is it all in English and sounds like US soul/R’n’B? I start looking up the artists and turns out yeah it’s all US music.

And no one is Ethiopian. The playlist was not made by another user, a LLM must have used Ethiopian as a synonym for black or something.

Welcome to the future.

Why do I ever give my emotions to anybody? It's absolutely never worked out for me.

I am finally playing Satisfactory. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Why is everything so huge!! How can I realistically clear a flat area for everything so that it's visually parseable? Do I have to just build huge foundation plains in the sky or whatever? That's what I've been doing so far since the base is currently at the edge of a cliff.
  2. Is there a way to stack conveyor belts or like align them so that they look a little decent, or should I just embrace the spaghetti?
  3. The game says to embrace verticality, but so far very few machines can actually be stacked. It would be nice to stack Constructors or Assemblers, is that possible? Seems like no?

mental health, guilt, enbys be shoppinHey how do you not feel guilty and like you're being overly indulgent for making any personal purchases

My favorite boots are wearing out and I got a deal on some new ones and logically I know it's a completely reasonable expense and not like I'm blowing a ton of money for them and I'll like them and wear them a lot but I still feel shitty about getting stuff for myself?

I wasn't even raised Catholic, why am I so guilt prone lmao

I grew up poor and my parents were kinda cheapskates so I know that has a lot to do with it but still

I feel like I should have gotten over this shit by this point idk

It’s really funny that Doug Ford’s reaction to the tariff threats was to basically start crying at a press conference.

The most heartbreaking moment of my life is still the moment when one of my exes told me she didn't like punk rock, she just dressed like that because she was a skater. When I asked her what she listened to, she told me with a straight face that her music taste revolved around Insane Clown Posse and music from Fallout soundtracks.

In a week i should have a house and I should be able to finally start growing a weed without worrying about apartment maintenance people being narcs

But my partner, despite being like 30, doesn't want her parents to know we smoke or drink so i guess i have to figure out how to hide it still? she was saying she'd tell her parents one of the sheds is all fucked from termites or something but like. that would just make them want to look

It's all kind of annoying me, like my parents gave me this "my roof my rules" bullshit all my life, I don't want to have to hide shit now that it's my house

Just saw a showing of The Wages of Fear (1955) in a 4k restoration. What a film. A pure delight

Also so blatantly anti-capitalist they had to cut 35 minutes to show it in the US, apparently

I think horror is the only genre I’ve seen AI consistently manage to pull off. AI images already having a level of uncanny valley to them probably helps a lot.

Anyone else have an issue where they can speak two languages fluently but can’t translate between them for shit? Like if I'm remembering a story in one language but telling it in the other my thoughts just fall apart, more so than when I’m telling a story in other contexts anyway.

Still november, and it's nice and cool and some snow has just started falling! I am legitimately happy. I aim to enjoy every cold snowy winter that I can while they still exist in this part of the world. I love winter, and I love snow.

My nice headphones crapped out. I spent more money hoping to get something good so i'd never have to touch logitech again but it has these fragile "planar magnetic drivers" that are i guess super fragile sheets of metal foil and can be destroyed by normal handling. They sound really nice and they're very comfy but the build quality is spotty and they"re fragile on top of that and they broke and it's just like shit I was hoping they'd last.

I can't totally cope with the idea of "disposable" for anything that isn't actually consumable. In my head things should last forever if you keep them oiled and check them for rust regularly. It's happening to my phone, too. Modern apps are chewing up all it's ram and more and more programs are being deprecated. There's nothing wrong with it except planned obsolesence and sloppy, resource hogging programming stuffed with anti-features.

At least the knife i got as a present twenty years ago remains sharp, sturdy, and rust free.

This whole entropy thing is bogus.

Started back up watching Scavenger's Reign with my dad. He's super into it actually and that rocks. Maybe this is how I can get him to watch an anime.

Show is super good by the way. You should watch it if you've not.

Giggling like a dumbass at the deprogram intro about JT's old maga neighbors seeing Das Kapital on his bookshelf and being like "damn, this guy's reading about German geography, weird!" and "the Germans have a whole book about capital letters?? What about Das Lowercase?"

I found a copy of Link's Crossbow Training in a roadside giveaway/trash bin, never tried it. Now that I have I gotta say, this shit is FUN. It's a great gallery shooter and I fucking love those kinds of games. People should have judged it by it's own merits and not by the fact that Zelda is written on the box. It's not a Zelda game but it is a really high quality arcade gallery shooter. They probably should have marketed it as a duck hunt sequel cause that's really what it is. I wonder if it started that way and then someone pointed out shooting ducks is gonna come off way worse with better than NES graphics.

Just remembered a strange event from my childhood. My dad and I were walking down the street when an old man stopped us in order to show us his life's work: a detailed miniature recreation of a famous circus. He had a yellowed photo in his wallet of some acrobats in the center stage of a miniature circus. We didn't know him and I never saw him again, but to this day the art of miniatures is the only thing I still share with my dead father.
