I'm pretty sure half the red states already block it.

Instead I'd suggest a more technically involved approach of blocking the middle fifth (a 25% tariff) of the screen of videos with a large black bar that has a Canadian flag and a beaver (not that kind) on it.

If you want to send a message it's better to avoid a full blackout since most regular folks will just assume it's a server outage. Make it clear it's intentional.

Not sure about the idea of having the Canadian flag layered on top of the ~~weird shit~~ diverse kinks available on PornHub.

Maybe just add a picture of Trump and Musk? The importer is the one paying the tariff anyway, so it should be an US image.

We're a country with extremely liberal views on speech and sexuality. I support superimposing a Canadian flag over a little person in full bondage gear humping the leg of a pregnant woman while shouting "I want to go back inside mommy". That's the Canada I became a citizen of.

[–] villasv@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Sure, but might also get layered onto a video of a dude cosplaying Uncle Sam whipping the floor.

I don't care about the flag's reputation, it's just that using our flag isn't really beneficial in any way and they should eat the risk.

Nah, not fair to kink shame Canadians into stuff. Who decides what is "weird" and what isn't?

PH blocks itself in those states because of their ID requirements.

Spoken as a true master of ~~evil~~ justice let's follow your track !!

A fifth would be 20%, if you want to block 25% then you block one fourth of the screen.

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Aha, but a 25% tariff ends up taxing a fifth of the total value. I've been hit in the nads by enough fence posts in my day to dodge that trap.

[–] nshibj@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, I know nothing about tariffs taxing... so I guess you're right. I was just thinking arithmetics (25%=1/4) but it seems I overstepped here πŸ˜…

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

No worries at all, the mistake you made is extremely common. The best way to think about it is that the tariff is 1/4, and the existing value is 4/4 so that's 5/4 total which means that you can consider the tariff to be 1/4th the original cost or 1/5th of the new cost - both answers are correct if you're careful in your wording.

In my initial answer I also referenced fence posts. If you're thinking about building a fence with ten segments how many posts do you need? Well, to the right of each segment there's one fence post - but you've also got one that's not to the right of any segment so you can either describe your fence as ten segments long or eleven posts long.

This shit trips up people all the time so no worries.

This is a fucking amazing idea and support it!

[–] Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They should add "Because of 25% tariff US viewers can't see the last 10% of all videos."

25% tariffs means businesses need to raise prices ~33% to keep same profits

If I was selling lemonade for $1

Tariff would be 25 cents

Sell $1, pay 25 cents for tariff, make 75 cents per lemonade

If I raised my price to $1.33

Tariff would be 33 cents

Sell $1.33, pay 33 cents for tariff, make $1 per lemonade

A 25% tariff means ~33% higher prices if the company's can get people to pay it.

So should be 33% instead of 10%

Well they're so conservative there already was some talk about banning PH in some states.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Those usually are the worst. I still remember the 90's a (very) religious guy brings in his VCR... "Yesterday after church I was going to watch a bit of TV but the tape got stuck" We fixed it and watched a bit. I wasn't that blue, but it was some serious porn. Around the same time a friend worked at mail distribution, Most copies of playboy went to the bible belt.

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Conservative demographics consume more porn. That will only back fire.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

There will be plenty of kids for them to rape now that they're halting abortions as well.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

I believe Florida has to use a VPN but that was because you had to give PH your ID. Pornhub said yeah no we are not tagging people at the door.

Blue balling them for the cause.

Block a random state every couple of days
