Duck Tails. Nothing beats that moon theme.

This immediately started playing in my head when I read the question.
Gonma be honest, I love the Pictionary theme

EDIT: Someone also apparently sequenced it with newer samples:

EDIT2: A group doing a drum and strings cover:
Thanks for doing all these links :D excellent work
It has no business being that good
It's been awhile, but my first thought was Kirby
Chrono Trigger - Main Theme
Castlevania II - Simon's Quest - Town at Daytime
Mega Man 2 - Bubble Man Stage
Super Mario Bros 2 - Game End
River City Ransom - Menu/Shop Theme
Chrono Trigger - Main Theme
Note that this is SNES.

An orchestral remix, I believe rendered with some MIDI synth; the artist here appears to have done two CDs:

Thanks for doing the leg work! So many memories!
That Super Mario Bros 2 - Game End lullaby is perfect.
When I first beat it as a kid, I just sat there for 10 minutes listening. This song has permanent resistance in my head.
The title track from Shadowgate is awesome.
If you're into nixing the treble, Super Glove Ball's whole soundtrack goes bass only when you pause the game.
SNES recommendation: Super R type has a killer soundtrack.

I'm guessing that this is paused.

"HD" version; not clear to me how this was generated:

MIDI-sequenced remaster from some project to create MIDI versions of SNES music:
The House song from Mother 1 is amazing and so is the rest of the album in this light

My mom used to use the fishing song from The Black Bass to put me to sleep. Many moons later, I still find it soothing. https://youtu.be/6DDffBpWfnk?t=03m15s
I'd never heard this but now it's stuck in my head lol
I remember enjoying a lot of the Mega Man music. But also the theme for the first area in Crystalis has stuck with me for ages.
NES Deja Vu, great music for the puzzle solving.
Solstice.
Composer put out straight fire on this one
Apparently the Solstice music was done by one Tim Follin, who also did the Pictionary music that was also mentioned here.
EDIT:
This is so cheeky. He starts off with the most generic NES music imaginable then proceeds to simply obliterate its soundchip.
Spot on. 🤘
Since you specified NES, og Zelda and Maniac Mansion
- Double Dragon 2 - Final Battle 2
- Final Fantasy III - The Crystal Tower
- The Guardian Legend - Forest Fields (honestly the whole OST is amazing)
- Solstice - Title Theme
- Blaster Master - Area 3
- Mega Man 6 - Wily Fortress (seriously people are sleeping on Mega Man post 2)
- Mega Man 5 - Wily Fortress
This might be a weird, obscure game, I think, but I LOVE the Act 1 Part 1 song from Totally Rad and Act 1 Part 2 is my second favorite NES tune. The whole OST is just fire.
https://youtu.be/vLbR-vm-Ry8 - Part 1
https://youtu.be/l-IZG44nfvk - Part 2
The game started as a sort of jrpg sidescroller, but it got... butchered from "Americanizing". Still gnarly, though (heh).
Also, honorable mention, all the music from The Guardian Legend. All of it. I love that game so much.

One of the best songs - https://youtu.be/W2q0aIql0Qw
Oh shit, and this one (sorry, I'm like a kid in a candy shop trying to pick my favorite when it comes to NES) - https://youtu.be/o_VzSKgTye0
Ugh it wasn't NES, but there's a SNESdrunk video out there with an OST clip that absolutely slapped, and I haven't been able to find it again. I combed all the music-specific videos and then some. I'm not sure if it was even SNES or not. Thanks for reminding me :(
SNESdrunk
Given that we're talking about "relaxing music", my first hit on Kagi for "SNESdrunk ost" is this and it looks apropos:
https://archive.org/details/3-hours-of-relaxing-super-nintendo-music-snesdrunk
Is that it? If it is, I suspect that from the sound quality on the first song, what they're doing is taking someone's MIDI file representing the SNES soundtrack and then rendering it using a newer soundfont.
I don't much like music rendered with FM synthesis myself, the way the original NES sound hardware worked
not a chiptunes fan
but I do keep around some old game MIDI files and listen to them with synthesis using newer soundfonts.
My favorite NES "soundtrack" is Dark Side of the Moon, Brad Smith's fantastic adaptation of the Pink Floyd classic for the NES console.
The game is sorta crap even though I like it, but I find The Blues Brothers NES OST very comfy.
