I'm Australian, and burger with the lot where I come from involves the following Bun Bacon Egg Lettuce Tomato Pineapple Beetroot Meat Onion Sauce maybe. That's the minimum you expect anyway

Definitely not, generally mixing intense sweet and meat is not for me.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee -1 points 5 days ago

Belongs? How about we let people eat whatever the hell they want? Who cares?

[–] bieren@lemmy.zip -2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Why can’t we just let people eat what they want and how they want? We have bigger things to worry about…like fascists in the White House. Or war between Israel and Iran. Or people with a foot fetish.

Pineapple belongs on everything you like it on. No matter what others say. Life’s too short to rob yourself of things food you like, simply because other people think so.

[–] Bronzie@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Totally agree.

The only rule I have in the kitchen is that there are no rules. Rules on what is allowed to mix in cooking are stupid.
You like pasta with boiled eggs and Nutella? You do you!

Taste is 100% subjective.

I've tried it on burger a few times and it just doesn't fit me well, but on I always use it on pepperoni pizza and in my tacos.
That or mango.

[–] nieminen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I agree in principle, but there are rules in a kitchen. Mostly it's for safety though, not for flavor

Whatever you want on food belongs on food!

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I have devoted my life to fighting pineapple on pizza. If what you say is true my life is meaningless.

[–] cattywampas@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago

Life's too short to fight about arbitrary rules of food combinations my dude. Za and let za I always say.

[–] halferect@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Try Canadian bacon, pineapple, pickled jalapeΓ±os, and goat cheese on a pizza and you'll change your mind

Fuck yeah, grilled alongside the patty, maybe a soy sauce glaze.

Fuck that abomination you described though.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

maybe a soy sauce glaze.

Thanks for sort of confirming a thought I just had! I never heard of pineapple on a burger, but I started thinking about what might work and soy/teriyaki started coming up in my mind as a potential and then I see this comment lol

Yeah! Teriyaki would work great if you like it sweeter.

If someone enjoys something I say let them enjoy it. Seems like an interesting combination but not something I need to go out and try immediately.

[–] Resplendent606@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would eat it on a burger but beetroot (that you listed) does not sound appetizing.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm certain it's an Australian thing but sliced thin is great

[–] coaxil@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Don't forget is also basically pickled how we do it! So fucking good

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pineapple is really good for sweet, salty, spicy combos. Pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeno pizza goes really hard, don't really like pineapple on other pizzas though.

Maybe adding something spicy to this burger would be good too.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The classic pineapple and ham is really good with hot sauce on it.

Yeah, it’s a very common thing here in Northern Europe too! At least my corner of it. Even growing up in a very remote and small village in the Lappish wilderness a burger with pineapple was one of the more common ones at the local (and the only) grill-kiosk.

However, for whatever reason, pineapple in a burger seems to be almost always paired with a fried egg. I think it’s great but not really sure why exactly that’s so common a combo.

I don't like "belong" here. Pineapple is food. People like it, or like it in certain combinations, or they don't. Highly concentrated uranium or arsenic really don't belong in food. Pineapple is not the same as uranium.

If you've ever been a student or cash strapped you've eaten various uncommon combinations of food. You didn't care what belonged together or not. And neither should anyone care in this regard. Outside of poison and allergies, we don't need to be paternalistic about telling people what to eat or not. People who get internet mad about pineapple on pizza need to reevaluate their life choices.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm just saying if I ordered a burger with the lot it's not complete without the pineapple.

Burgers and pizza (and omelettes) are the perfect "blank canvas" foods. You can be boring with few/no toppings, you can be traditional with the expected combinations, or you can flex your creativity with whatever else your heart comes up with.

Either way, it's an ingredient with plenty of potential, but it needs to be countered somehow. Canadian bacon doesn't do it for me, in pizza but pepperoni and jalapeno does! For burgers... I like the comment mentioning soy sauce, but if I had to think of something on my own... Hmmm, maybe grilled with grilled jalapeno, crispy onion, and some cream cheese? Basically a jalapeno popper burger with the pineapple shaking things up and the crispy onion adds some crunch?

Damn, now I'm hungry

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I grill the jalapenos every time I make myself a burger. And almost every time I make a burger for other people too.

I've never done soy sauce on a burger, but with a couple other choice/complimentary ingredients it could be an insane combo.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

If you wanted to do pineapple and soy sauce together, I bet that marinating the pineapple in some soy sauce (probably the low sodium kind for this one) would work great!

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago

I like pineapple pizza (as long as the pineapple pieces aren't too big), but that burger sounds annoying. Not saying the flavors don't combine well, but the amount of toppings makes it sound way too tall unless the slices are razor thin.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

it's pretty damn good on both and if you don't think so you're a baby 🍼πŸ₯

[–] Secret_Music@crazypeople.online 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I think that people should be allowed to like what they like and there's no debate. And anyone that wants to debate someone else's tastes can fuck off.

Judging people on the kind of food they like is literally the dumbest shit ever. You're not the one eating it so why do you care?

I like pineapple on its own. I'm just not a big fan of pineapple on things. I don't need everything I eat to be savory and sweet.

[–] scytale@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

Aloha Burger! It’s good.

Yes but I'm also Australian so that's normal

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Pineapple. It's not just for pizza anymore.

Cake, pizza, chocolate, burgers, ice cream, candy, hot chocolate, soda, pancakes, omelets, chicken, s'mores, salads, peanut butter, rice, sandwiches, and many more things I can't think of right now.

Grilled pineapple or pineapple tossed in a crawfish boil is excellent and would be a great burger addition. But it can’t just be a slice of pineapple. Too sweet. It would mess up the cheese flavor. You need to get rid of some of the sugar.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Islands Hawaiian burger

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Funnily enough, I had a burger with pineapple on it when I was in Australia. It was great, I really liked the juiciness and taste the pineapple brought to the burger.

Granted, it was at an Oporto (which is kinda like upscale McDonald's with a Portuguese theme to it for the uninitiated), but it was pretty good nonetheless; I'd have it again.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

What's the debate? Whether it tastes nice or not? Seeing the popularity of both pineapple pizza and pineapple/cheese and honey burgers (at least in Europe), I guess it's tasty enough for a bunch of people.

I swear, some people will take a stand for anything besides important things, lol. God? Morals? Imperialism? Nah, I'm gonna spend my limited time and even more limited brainpower on cuisine debates... πŸ™„πŸ€·

Depends on the burger but I usually dig the pineapple, always hate the beetroot though

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How's the egg cooked on that thing?

[–] jimmux@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago

Typically just fried on the grill with the patty, bacon, and onion.

The only time I've ever had it was at a Disneyland resort, and that was not at all a good burger. I assume it would be nice on a higher quality burger.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The juiciness of burgers & pineapples allow for better texture/mixture & flavour distribution/experience imho compared to pizzas that are usually relatively drier.

Same for various cuts of apples.

I do like pineapple in Asian chicken/rice dishes, but I was raised on beef burgers topped with pickle, ketchup, cheese, lettuce, tomato and bacon and that's my burger comfort zone.

[–] Little_mouse@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

I think the main contention with pineapple on pizza is that pizza is often a shared meal. Burgers wouldn't be an issue there.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

I've never had it but I'd imagine it'd be good

In the UK I'd say it's rare. Only a select few restaurants put pineapple slices in a burger, and they are mostly homegrown family-run businesses and, rarely, chains like Beefeater.

I'd love to try one. Here the standard quality burger is (bottom to top): bun, lettuce, tomato, meat, onion, bacon if any, pickled gherkin slices, sauce, cheese slice. If that sounds bland by comparison it's because this is England.

The fancy ones can have egg, hash brown, chilli peppers and/or mushrooms, but I've not yet seen beetroot in a burger

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Its a burger.

On a bun.

Add ketchup if you like.

I don't care.
