I haven't seen a TWAIN error in at least 20 years.

"Well, that dog won't hunt!"

Task failed successfully.

fucking TWAIN drivers were the bane of my existence at one time.

fucking Windows 98!

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Ya, this pic just gave me flashbacks. I thought I had buried that for good.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I seem to remember some annoying shit called TWAIN from decades ago, which was always giving me errors and headache. Is that still a thing?

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It still is, it's a standard for imaging devices. Honestly aside from it being annoying, it was and is a decent attempt at a standard for scanners coming from an era of driver standards as a pipe dream. Try that with printers, ever. And also a nightmare.

Oh, thank you. I had forgotten that!

And also a nightmare.

Yes. Now that the memories are coming back, I do notice most of them aren't very nice...

Why is the ghost of Mark Twain haunting your scanner?

[–] EnsignWashout@startrek.website 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's an acronym: T.W.A.I.N. (edit: a backconym, as was pointed out - I've also heard that the weird upper case name came first, and the weirder acronym was added later.)

"Technology without an interesting name."

And... That's all I remember about it, at the moment.

Well, also that it broke often, and threw weird errors like the one pictured.

You folks printed out his works for the last time.

I always hated "Error: No Error Has Occurred"

Mainly because it had no button to close or acknowledge, so you had to reset your machine.

We all thought AI gonna rule us over by force, but in reality they just gonna gaslight all of us.

People are worried about the end of Win 10 and this mad lad still uses ancient wizardry

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

There's no softwaregore community?

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

File scanned fine but you forgot the cover sheet.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 7 points 2 days ago

Yeah. It's just that we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So I'd really appreciate it if you could just remember to do that from now on. That'd be great.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

'Twas a success.

What's this I hear about problems with your TPS reports? Didn't you get the memo?

[–] absquatulate@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yay for success, I guess?

[–] realitista@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

This photo perfectly encapsulates TWAIN in a nutshell.

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

NAPS2 is great but also incredibly painful

It has been a long time but I think WIA worked better when I used it

[–] terminhell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

It does, naps was a last ditch effort. Unfortunately the clients software requires twain support =\
