That's the real story here. We should not be reflexively getting the Americans involved with basic defense.

It does but flying a plane around and forcing a bunch of detours and even more flights seems like an awful way to make a point about protecting the environment. That's like pissing in a pool to complain about how dirty the pool is.

However if there was one small airplane at every international airport so that no jumbo jets could fly, the net emissions from aviation would be far less.
