the western brainpan is only capable of caring about life they deem fit to be pets.

The dog wouldn't want to die without him. Dogs are almost like our symbiotes.

Even though I’d set up the cat tree on her insistence, Donut jumped straight onto my neck and settled in.

“Goodnight, Carl,” she said.

“Goodnight, Donut,” I said, patting her head.

“Promise me you won’t let me die alone like GumGum’s mom,” she said. “Or GumGum. I guess she died alone, too. She was probably really scared.”

“Don’t worry, Donut,” I said. “We’ll find out who’s responsible, and we’ll make them pay.”

I'm just reading the "Dungeon Crawler Carl" series (which includes "The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook") and he sort of inherits his ex-girlfriends cat Donut. Then the earth is flattened by aliens because we failed to file and appeal 50 years after first content and Carl is forced into a Running Man style dungeon for the alien's entertainment. Luckily his cat Donut evolves and becomes intelligent and can shoot magic missiles out of her eyes. She later says:

“You promised me that I wouldn’t die alone,” she said. “You can’t keep that promise if you die before me. We do this together.”

Not surprised, it's kind of like first world feminism bleeding into terf shit, animal welfare groups putting the dog above the human. It's sad because you can want animal liberation while also looking out for people too, but I guess they missed the memo.

If gaza was full of dogs instead of children then the west would have occupied Tel Aviv by now.

I'm generally distrustful already, but I'm especially distrustful of White people who claim to be big 'animal lovers'.

I had an ex who visited my home country with me. Some areas are dirty and very poor, lots of people working, walking, and kids begging for money. She was fine with all of it until she saw some puppies in the street, then she cried and became critical of how unsafe it was for puppies to be in that environment. Accused my family and I about being heartless because we didn't mind the dogs. Oh, but fuck the kids, right? Needless to say, it didn't go over well.

It amazes me sometimes how normalized it is in the minds of white people to see human beings as sub-human and not worthy of their empathy. Like I've had white people get mad at me for saying that I care about people in the global south. Or even just for bringing up their suffering. They'll be like, "Well what do you want me to do about it??" Uh idk maybe not dismiss it? Maybe give a shit? Is that so hard to do?

Some months ago I went to Buenos Aires, we were chilling in a square with many dogs and their owners, one guy turned out to be an Israeli who had "rescued this dog from the war"...

[–] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Original: "I rescued this dog from the war."

Translation: "I participated in a genocide against someone and stole their dog."

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Yep, he was a 20 something guy

I've ran into (liberal) animal rights activists who really fit the stereotype of being misanthropes who would kill hundreds to save one animal. It just feels so... Wrong.

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 81 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Many pet lovers do not love Earth and it's inhabitamts (including other humans) minus the specific pet they have emotionally latched onto.

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Most pet owners see their pet as nothing more but an object to own and control.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I genuinely wonder how pet owners reconcile pedigrees/breeds and eugenics in their heads. "Aww he's a labrador pure-breed goodboy!"

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago

Don't get me started on pedigree purebreed shit, it's like cosmic levels of torture and cruelty.

My stepgrandparents had a king Charles spaniel, and the poor thing had eye infections all the time, probably headaches (their skull is too small for their brain, giving them "ghost headaches" iirc) and epilepsy when it got older. I just cannot understand it and I don't want to.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 56 points 1 week ago

These kinds of misanthropic liberals don't deserve to consume feel-good-bittersweet stories about animals surviving hardship

Send them the dozens of videos of animals in Gaza with their limbs snapped off by IOF bombs, that's all these fuckers deserve to witness

I think it's unexamined ideology. there's a project to indoctrinate us to not have empathy for humans in distress, to see their circumstances, generally, as a product of their choices.

there is something similar at work for animals, but it's less acute and relies a lot on "out of sight, out of mind" and speciesism. animals in the built environment are pretty tightly controlled in the US. shit, imagine the amount of effort it would take to overcome the outcry over the number of loose, feral dogs getting blasted by cars we would have to see here.

guarantee most people who wanted to save this dog and ignores the human passively assumed this guy could "take care of himself" in a way they felt the dog could not.

Yup. It’s rationalized (if at all) as “this person is in this situation because of their choices and they can choose something else” vs “this poor dog didn’t choose to be here we need to rescue it”

[–] LaBellaLotta@hexbear.net 50 points 1 week ago

This is so fucking bleak

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago (13 children)

Dog people are some of the worst psychopaths JFC. I don't get how you can love dogs, but then have nothing but contempt for cats, humans (especially children), and non-mammals. What causes this? It's probably sadists are drawn to dogs over other living things, right?

[–] CharlieTheOctopus@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago

This seems like an extreme generalization.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 1 points 6 days ago

...dog people and authoritarians have a large overlap: in-group / out-group, it's all a thing...

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 46 points 1 week ago (8 children)

Never met a dog person who actively hated other non-human mammals, did met all kind of racists that loved their pets.

It's a distinctly reactionary angle, because these are also people who do not actually respect their dogs

They like their dogs, but their dogs are their property

This is why they have such contempt about other animals, because they view them as invaders or detritus

Oh.

Yeah.. that is just bullshit. I want to be mad but I'm just sad. Offering to take away his companion to appease your own idea of morals.
I question if western cultures have real empathy for other humans.

If the internet had been overflowing with pictures of zionist stormtroopers torturing cats and dogs and bombing pet hospitals the way we have seen them do to human beings, the "state of Israel" would have been nuked off the map by now.

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I've seen a couple videos of Zionists killing or torturing cats. I think some of them associate cats with Arabs/Muslims.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago

At this point, who can be surprised that they're also doing that?
