Whether intended or not they first created in many people addiction to romantic interactions with this bot and then suddenly forced them to go cold turkey. People are now having withdrawal symptoms and looking for alternatives such as self hosting and tinkering. Given enough time they likely will find more niche solutions than chatgpt. So openAI is trying to move fast to capture the majority of these people into a money trap.
