From one of the Related Articles :

“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons. All my gay friends [know] what’s up, they been calling me with love,” Snoop Dogg wrote. “My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old 😳. Teach me how to learn I’m not perfect.”

Good on his friends for calling him in.

Whatever his reasons for "going woke", I prefer to see this route to the JK Rowling route.

Yeah, if we can't accept people changing their minds, then we will always lose everything every time.

This is exactly what we should be looking for...

Grandad says something bigoted.

Younger people educate grandad.

Grandad publicly acknowledges that he was wrong and gives others an opportunity for others to do the same?

How do you complain about that?

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 43 points 2 months ago

Preach.

When people come around we have to respect it. Some jokes along the way are cool too especially here which is practically offline (small circle of friends).

Hopefully we can all remember a stupid view we once had and if we apply the Lucky 10,000 concept we know that we happened to be challenged on it when we were young. Someone was older when they started to see things more equitably? Welcome to the light side!

this isn't about love and acceptance. it's about marketing lmao. snoop said some shit he knew would get him in the headlines and now he's using that as an opportunity to plug his new TV show. he's been doing this for decades. maybe lgbt people are tired of their struggles being exploited for a chance to sell eyeballs to advertisers?

Being black and LGBT is really hard, and if the black community doesn't cancel him and maybe even listens, this is huge.

People really need to cut people some slack. If this is genuine and I feel it is he's learning. People are allowed to change.

Judge someone by not just their past but their potential.

I lived long enough to watch gangsters turn into posers

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 56 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Whenever I see Eminem im like “dude smile, you’re a 50 something billionaire, nobody thinks you’re hard”

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago

That's so true lol. My 10 year old daughter almost shit herself when I told her he's literally a grandpa.

Greed is a hell of a drug.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (9 children)

Are gangsters preferable? Doesn't sound like either end of that spectrum is great, but I'd prefer my suburb be full of posers.

Frankly, it’s the most “gangster” thing he’s done in a while. Most gangsters are bigots. It’s a low education background

Honestly in this political climate, I'll take it. He could have easily taken a hard right turn

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

He played at Trumps inaugural Crypto Ball.

You can’t turn much farther right than that.

Anyone who has shilled for the fascist regime needs to do a lot of work to regain any kind of respect. If he's not going to use his platform to unapologetically oppose Trump then he deserves none.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 months ago

This is the kind of criticism I can get behind. Good on him for changing his view on this, but everything else is still problematic.

[–] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 76 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I hear he sucked Trump's dick to play at the inauguration.

Good on him for walking it back, but you have friends that are LGBT and you still felt comfortable saying that stuff? Snoop can get his bag elsewhere because I won't support him again

Regardless of his actions I trust Snoop with absolutely nothing, he has no morals the only driving factor is money. Like I love some of his music but don't take anything he says at face value; he will partner with both left wing and right wing at the same time just to get that little more cash

Snoop dog traded a actual lifetime of G credit away for a paycheck to sing and dance for a wannabe dictator.

I made a 90s playlist recently. Fully omitted snoop dog. He has some bangers but I'm good without him.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 months ago

[–] werty@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I didn't expect that, but good on him and glaad

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 21 points 2 months ago

He may be a complete piece of shit, but he can afford a crack PR team.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I can’t believe this soft ass theatre kid who decided he wanted to be a piece of shit gangster after the fact, and ended up with a murder beef among other things, ever fooled people into thinking he was a good guy or role model. He’s always been an idiot and im sure he says far worse things behind closed doors.

I will always give Snoop this; Man been with his wife through thick and thin. He got rich and famous, could have kicked her to the curb for a super model, or 10. Tells me he has some sort of moral core.
