We grew up in a world before AI so we have a frame of reference to compare it to. Just think about the people born into this slopfilled landscape where the content their young minds absorb will overwhelmingly be AI generated. It will be the normalized default for them. There is going to be a much sharper generational divide than the internet savvy millennial vs tech illiterate boomer that we saw in the early 00s.

I know this is a pipedream, little more than expecting the kiddies to magically rise above their material conditions, but I hope that it actually results is a reaction against AI and that being born into a world of slop gives a significant portion of the coming generation some 6th sense to tell slop better than we can.

I'm hoping for some idealist fantasy because if not, gen alpha and their successors won't be disappointments, they'll be downright incapable of coherent thought. They'll let LLMs and other misapplied tools do their thinking for them in every aspect of life.

Those are the stakes currently

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Unfortunately, the only solution is to avoid the internet in its entirety and just read books and watch pre-2023 shows and movies

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 22 points 3 months ago

which is pretty good advice anyway

sucks my local library system has next to nothing good on the shelves. hard to browse. i can order nearly any book and have it at my branch in 48 hours though but it takes something away from the experience and makes it internet brained and impersonal again. oh well

at least one of the librarians has an undercut and dyed hair and seems cool AF (there's always at least one, even out in the sticks)

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Yep. Librarians are often the coolest people. Even in places that seem to be horribly oppressive conservative sinkholes.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

My local branch never has what I want, and since recent budget cuts it takes over a week now for them to deliver books from other branches.

Finding new music for me has transformed from gingerly plucking fresh berries from each bush in a tranquil grove to squatting in my shack, frantically waving my shotgun from window to window as unseen demon wolves howl outside.

remember a few years ago when the "youtube algorithm" would find cool new stuff for you to listen to? now i instinctively distrust any video that's been posted within the last two years, even if there's an "album name", "artist name" and "year". playlists without artist names are no-go zones. going to the account page to see if they upload more than one video per week. seeing how obvious "ai" videos get 100x more views than actual music

broken

downvoting "ai" music has now led to youtube only serving me videos of DJs playing old vinyls, or videos i watched 8 years ago

[–] Antiwork@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I do like those DJs in vinyl though

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 31 points 3 months ago

clinging to all the shit I've accumulated over the years like low-background steel

[–] Des@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

it actually makes me feel like low intensity psychosis sometimes. i don't trust any short form video and can't even browse fashion ideas anymore because it's 99% AI gen

so yeah. hopefully this gets all of us off the internet eventually (lol). at least there's no incentive to slopify places like this because there's no $ to be made. instead we just get eventually targeted by the U.S. security Eye for shitposting in ways not acceptable to the groypers and christian nationalists that run it

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I'm just going to let it go and assume everything is AI unless it is proven otherwise. So if you want me to believe anything you do is real, you gotta fuck it up a bit how an AI will never do. Use a sentence structure unheard of til now or something lol

[–] huf@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

all the ruling class is pedophiles, everything is AI

what a time to be alive.

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

"alive". doubt

Jk good job ignoring grammar. I believe you, you have been deemed not AI for this comment. Until AI reliably does shitty grammar in a totally human way, I will believe this

edit: realized this sounds harsh. I really do mean the 'good job' because it's a very human comment. No need to pay attention to the bullshit parts of grammar when you can be understood so well without them. I'll eat my boot if it was actually AI lol

[–] huf@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

i never ignore grammar, i just let the part of my brain that does english do whatever it wants. it's not a very well tuned part, fed on thin gruel and left to rot in the dark for most of my life, but it does have faint memories of the sky.

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Poetic. This would be tagline material if there were anything about leftists in it hahaha

[–] huf@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

there's surely a leftist angle to a person going to america because their dad got a job there to escape the "inflation" in the 90s in post warsaw-pact hungary

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

Post Soviet people having an "English is stupid, I don't care about it, I don't respect it" attitude is certainly Hexbear tagline material, lol.

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Huh? How should it be said then?

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

No capital letters, only a comma as punctuation, the last sentence is technically just a fragment. It's beautiful lenin-heart

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Out: using words like unalive to avoid demonitization

In: opening your video with the most corpo unfriendly string of words to confirm that you're a human being

Everything under heaven is in chaos. The situation isn't just heated — it's cooked.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago

Seriously, this is a massive fuck

How long till someone rigs up a program that runs synthID on every image in a browser?

Seriously though, everything on the Internet is fake until confirmed real.

There's an easy herusitic that you can use: does this content help further the cause of the people? Does it help me get up and fight for socialism another day? If it does, great, if not throw it in the bin. The burgussy will use any and all means to hold us back from taking power. Including filling every data storage device on earth with slop and yet we must prevail.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

I just got tricked the other day by a ai trailer for a video game that totally fooled me. It sucks because ai is NOT used responsibly

[–] Diurnambu1e@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Go for everything is IA and we are back to start of internet era for most web sites. I am thinking about doing a searchable web sites listes of non Ai sites and some collaborative stuff once it become too huge to manage. Maybe indexing them with searx.
