Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth isn't terrible, but it spends a good chunk of time emphasizing how taking climate change seriously would be good for capitalism.

I can’t wait for the documentary about Ai Weiwei being censored in Germany for being pro-Palestine

The Corporation, since you have Manufacturing Consent on there too

I had to watch The Cove recently, which isn’t overtly “political” in nature, but it is racist, classist, anti-rural, and literally makes shit up. It’s mostly just lib rage bait.

Like, yeah, the dolphin harvest in taiji is like, not cool… but you don’t need to be a crazy racist/classist nutjob that makes up statistics and racist jokes to convince people of that… you just do that cause you’re bad people.

They keep making the claim that “20,000 dolphins are slaughtered every year” and the best info I could find to support that claim is that one year, the Japanese fisheries commission issued nearly 20,000 permits for dolphin hunting in Japanese waters but there’s no record of how many of those permits were filled. The documentary implies — but is careful to never outright say — that all of those permits are used in one dolphin slaughter in taiji. As far as I could tell… maybe 1-2k dolphins were slaughtered in taiji every year? Maybe? Iunno.

And I’m not defending the dolphin slaughter in taiji, I just know that the documentary is a bunch of white Americans that do literally zero material analysis and do all of the racism and classism.

Okay I gotta stop before I enrage myself further.

Waiting For Superman

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 4 points 7 hours ago

Gutsy. An uncomfortable Truth.

[–] iagomago@feddit.it 4 points 7 hours ago

How is Waltz with Bashir libslop? It's a pretty firm condemnation of what happened at Shabra and Shatila, isn't it?

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 2 points 8 hours ago

i watched the tyrant thing and it was genuinely painful, its so smug and snarky

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 7 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Meeting Gorbachev by Herzog was massive libshit.

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Seeing the ban-hammer tag on this user, then viewing his profile and seeing multiple comments begging “mods ban me”

dead-dove-3

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It seems to be a part of a bit

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 4 points 5 hours ago

He stole your bit, but he actually committed

[–] ashestoashes@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 10 hours ago

Oof sounds about right but it'd hurt putting Herzog on there

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 16 points 14 hours ago

What makes “Exit Through the Gift Shop” libslop? I’m not arguing it’s a particularly leftist movie but I also don’t remember it being lib bait either.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 9 points 13 hours ago

The one about how the US military controls what goes in a bunch of movies. Mainly just because it ends with "This wouldn't be a problem if there was a disclaimer"

[–] pierre_delecto@hexbear.net 15 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

theres a navalny movie? lmao

[–] half_giraffe@hexbear.net 4 points 8 hours ago

It won an Oscar lmao

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 10 points 14 hours ago

Libs doing such a cartoonish hagiography of an ethnonationalist is nauseating

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 24 points 16 hours ago

Add the Melania documentary just to piss everyone off.

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 21 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Saw an Al Wei Wei interview and he is even more infuriating than Zizek.

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 14 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

He's mostly just rambling absolutely random takes with zero consistency

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 14 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Mumble enough and little orientialism does the rest.

I didn't know about The Red Pill so I was like why would that be libslop and holy shit I wasn't ready agony-shrooms

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 7 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Care to elaborate? I am just as confused as you were

[–] VHS@hexbear.net 10 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

It's essentially laundering the anti-feminism movement for a more general audience, going out of its way to paint it in a positive light. You could argue whether that's libslop or fashslop though.

[–] Nomorereddit@lemmy.today 1 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

How does it fit in libslop? Libs are known for being pro women, (not so much men).

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 1 points 2 hours ago

Liberalism is not particularly pro-woman when most workers are women and the vast majority of women are workers.

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 1 points 4 hours ago

I think it's the perfect example of how liberalism can cater to fascism, because fashslop is typically just old misogynists rambling in front of a camera with a dead serious tone. Here it's more the "coming from empathy" approach, and essentially views "men's rights" with the lens of equality, being completely clueless about how the movement really is hate that wears the mask of civility and playing the victim

[–] ashestoashes@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

"A feminists journey into the men's rights movement"

[–] Nomorereddit@lemmy.today 2 points 10 hours ago

But she isnt a feminist anymore after this journey. she says she took the red pill.

[–] dead@hexbear.net 13 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Michael Moore, Robert Reich, Bill Maher, Morgan Spurlock

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Michael Moore was the first step on the road to anticapitalism for almost a generation of lefties.

[–] ashestoashes@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 12 hours ago

I've been meaning to watch 2000 meters to Andriivka on Thomas Flight's recommendation, it's almost certainly lib slop but he made it sound like it's very good. The man put me on to Park Chan Wook so I can let a little libbing out slide.

[–] ashestoashes@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Also unrelated but how do you crosspost posts to different communities?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 6 points 16 hours ago

On my browser and from Hexbear, there's an icon that looks like 2 squares, one overlayed on the other, which links to the cross post page.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 6 points 16 hours ago

There is s cross post button they I think looks like two overlapping boxes I think. It might be in the additional options menu.
