I'm a bit fond of collecting stuff. Coins, cards from defunct TCG's, books, and I'm doing my best not to get into stamps. Oh, and of course anything spider themed.

Rocks, mostly. Nothing specific, just ones that catch my eye on a walk

Used to be knives, but eventually the collection side of that faded away and I was just left with several good knives, a couple of sentimental knives, and some random bad knives that I use for stuff that fucks up knives

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

I used to collect knives, but I'm waaay too good at losing them. Now I got a collection much like yours.

One of the greatest rock collections in the world is here, and it's basically just a guy that started picking up rocks along the river when he was 12, and then got picky about the rocks looking cool as his collection grew, people started admiring the rocks, sending him cool rocks, offering him rare rocks, trading rocks from different parts of the world, offering him tours of major mines to find rocks etc. For 80 years. And he never went pro or did Geology, he made cabinets. Dude just loved cool rocks.

It's a very cool collection because it contains both very ordinary everyday minerals picked off the ground that look cool and deeply weird and hard to find shit.

[–] TheaJo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Dude really just made a museum. That's so cool

[–] cryptymythy@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

I used to have so many defunct tcg's, the original netrunner, spoils, the old dbz game with the little sword

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

unfinished projects :agony:

Board games, miniatures (mostly wh40k), print copies of webcomics. I'm still in the early stages of each of them, but as I get a little extra cash here and there I like to "invest" in one or more of them!

The hearts of my enemies

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago

I used to collect records, mostly jazz and rnb, but then I had a kid lol.

[–] ShareThatBread@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago

Board games. Fetish wear.

[–] SwitchyWitchyandBitchy@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Project ideas I haven’t started on. 😭 Though I have been turning that trend around recently!

Edit: Also perfume, it didn’t really start as something to collect but more to try out different ones. But in the meantime I have like 8 along with like 30 samples.

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

i'm kind of philosophically opposed to the idea but i seem to be collecting strange clothes and books despite not actively seeking them out. when you're a pimp people just give you pimp wear they find shrug-outta-hecks

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

I'm working my way to every volume of one piece. I'm still a ways off

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I collect a lot of stuff. old books, rare pre 20th century music, Current obsession 18th-19th century chatelaines (a series of chains women wore on their skirts, with all the tools needed for everyday life that they didn't want to have to reach into their (very large) pockets for,) and accessories,

Oh and hatpins. So stabby! Less keen on the hats but that's more an effort issue.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Love it! My local museum had a weapon's exhibit and they made sure to have a section on hairpins. Ladies rule.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Fidget toys and unusual plushes. For the former I have some spinners, magnetized coins, and other trinkets. For the latter I have a Cthulhu, a T-rex that looks stoned as fuck, a hydra, a reversible octopus, a beholder, a few more I can't remember

[–] ped_xing@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don't throw my old shoes away. I have 28 years' worth now.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

not for sale, baby shoes, very worn.

[–] ped_xing@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

Oh if only I had started that early. I think I started when my feet stopped growing.

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jeez, how many pairs? That's concerning but also kinda cool

[–] ped_xing@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Pretty sure it's still double-digits. I wear them into the ground so that's ~60 from when I was more into walking and jogging, plus various dress shoes, sandals and false starts where I had to retire shoes early for e.g., squeaking. K-Swiss were the squeakers. My brain retains that instead of useful information.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Priceless rare books, usually from the early 1900s.

[–] thericcer@reddthat.com 6 points 2 years ago

Miniatures of real world things.

Mini glass bottles, engines, vehicles, whatever. Extra points if it functions exactly as the full size thing.

My friend just gave me a mini tooth paste tube about an inch and a half tall with 3.3ml of toothpaste; made by Colgate for airplanes. Coolest thing I've collected in a while.

Data. For, you know, things.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Chick Tracts, whenever I see them in public I make sure to snag them if they're in decent condition. I have kind of a morbid curiosity when it comes to them, they're just so abhorrent in every single way imaginable. Even the relatively tame ones say everyone you know is going to hell to burn for eternity unless they're the right flavour of Christian extremist.

I've even spoken to a pretty shitty street preacher to get my fix. My holy Grail is the one they made about the evils of dungeons and dragons but you have to special order that one so unless another satanic panic kicks off about role playing games I think I'm out of luck

Edit: I started sharing my collection over at the comics com for anyone who's interested

Records and river rocks but not on purpose

[–] Abraxiel@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like finding cool rocks, I don't really hang on to them strongly though.

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

It's like a base instinct to ALWAYS take a rock or pebble home from the river whenever I go swimming. I can't help it!

[–] windowlicker@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

physical music. records, tapes, CDs, whatever i can find. i know i'm just a mere individual, but i would like to preserve as much as i humanly can. it makes me so depressed when i see how they are neglected. i do not trust the capitalists with the future of the internet, so i want to have physical forms of all the music i can get my hands on so none of it is lost to time or something because of digitization.
