Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

“For the first time since 2011, there are no British actors nominated,” O’Brien said, adding: “But at least they arrest the pedophiles over there.”

The crowd didn’t seem to know how to react to the joke, with shock seeming to ripple across the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. However, applause then broke out.

"The crowd didn’t seem to know how to react to the joke"

Hmm I wonder why...

[–] ati@piefed.social 7 points 31 minutes ago (1 children)

Sadly, neither Andrew nor Mandelsson were arrested on charges related to paedophilia or anything sex-related, but rather for improper handling of information.

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 2 points 1 minute ago

Its also an offense thats very hard to get enough proof that the CPS will take it forward for actual prosecution. While I am not saying it wont go to court for certain, if you had to pick an offense that was performative bollox, this would be a great one.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 17 minutes ago

I doubt anyone found that very shocking. It's not like he was speaking to a bunch of stupid redcaps.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 41 points 4 hours ago

That was a good line, I also liked "Welcome back to the Tiny Penis Theater... let's see him put his name in front of that..."

[–] some_guy 18 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

But he's the guy who's gonna expose the deep state! He super promised us.

Stupid people believe this asshole. Like my dumbass mother who voter for him three times. I no longer speak with her. Fuck everyone who voted for that piece of shit because they believed the harm wouldn't affect them personally.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 37 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Wow, you really hate Conan.

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 38 minutes ago

Think they got confused by the orange.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 31 minutes ago

I too got confused by the bad pronoun reference. It took me a second to realize that, no, he's on about trump.

[–] justsomeguy@lemmy.world 71 points 9 hours ago

Actors were waiting for instructions from their PR team on how to react.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 149 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIcxwxMMjXg (this joke is at 7:04)

Not sure what the article is talking about, they applauded more and faster for that than other jokes, and it doesn't look like it was due to editing. And they misquoted him.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 86 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Almost like they're trying to manipulate public sentiment and perception by.....lying about reality.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago

MSM is bought and owned by Conservatives

[–] tatterdemalion@programming.dev 18 points 8 hours ago

This article sucks, just watch the video of it.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 224 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

The president has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has characterized efforts to release the full files as a "hoax." He has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing, and an appearance in the Epstein files does not suggest otherwise.

The fuck he hasn't. He hasn't been indicted for criminal wrong doing related to the files, but he's a felon and he most certainly has been accused in the files.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 104 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

At this point I’d be surprised if he didn’t rape kids.

He has the entire executive branch of the US govt running cover for this. He fucking started a war partially to get the news cycle off Epstein. A war that no one wanted that they have already fucked up.

I don’t care if he’s convicted or whatever other legal term you want to throw on it. Trump is a pedophile.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

Agreed. On top of everything else, there simply couldn't be a way to act more guilty than he has acted.

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

Oh, the war in Iran has been a goal of project 2025 ilk for a while. It just happens to get two birds with one stone.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

All the people freaking out over him molesting kids really makes me wonder where you guys were about ten years ago when he was bragging about molesting kids, raping women, wanting to pimp his daughter, wanting to fuck his daughter, when he led the party of projection against the "pedophile left", when he was caught during the Moscow tower incident where it was revealed that he is owned by Russia, during the Panama papers, when he bragged about watching girls at a beauty pageant change clothing, or when he brought a bald eagle into the white house and it attacked him.

The Epstein files being revealed was a net negative imo. No consequences are going to come from it, so it's not like any good was done. It's just another case of the rich actively showing us they can literally rape and murder our children and we'll still cater to them. If they did release the Epstein files, and Trump's name was front and center with him balls deep in a toddler shooting a minority, what do you think would happen? Would people riot? Would people try and assassinate him? As far as I can tell, the only people who might try something are psychotic right wingers, and if the future of this country rests on their shoulders then we're better off with trump.

Growing up they tried to instill American pride and nationalism in me, just like everyone else. They said Americans fight for freedom and justice. Turns out, there's not a single back bone in the entire US, ignoring the one guy who's spine broke so he decided to actually do something about the problem because it was personal for him. Not dissing Luigi, but he didn't do anything significant before it became a problem for him personally. Humans just aren't wired to be good people.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 18 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's bullshit. People are plenty wired to do good. It's power that corrupts. And it also corrupts the system, which corrupts even more people. You can say that people are easily corrupted, but that's also not fair to say in a corrupt system.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 0 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

People aren't wired to be vigilantes. The last time a goalpost travelled that far they were building Stonehenge.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

They’re responding to the last sentence, which literally says that humans aren’t wired to be good people.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world -2 points 6 hours ago

At this point? What the fuck? How about 8 years ago?

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm not British, is the independent a fucking trash rag?

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 3 hours ago

It's not that bad. It means he hasn't been charged, and context makes it clear that the sentence is about the Epstein files, not anything else. It's possible to read it and understanding something false, but virtually no-one is ever going to do that.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 72 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

If Trump didn’t fuck kids why won’t they release the files with his name in them?

We asked 100 people, "If Trump didn’t fuck kids why won’t they release the files with his name in them?"

You said: "Because he did fuck kids."

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

I wouldn't call the crowd shocked so much as left wanting. Conan was doing his regular humor, but holy cow did those jokes of his just thud in that crowd, which was a pretty big loss since (imo) the intro bit with him in Aunt Gladys drag was hilarious.

But between the humor not working and TERRIBLE mic work, the technicals on this show were not there.

I loved the expanded in memorium section tho.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I only watched the opening monologue but thought it was pretty funny, especially for the Oscars. I chuckled a few times, which is more than I can say for the few previous times I've attempted to actually watch the Oscars.

I thought it was funny when he joked about Sean Penn getting an erection at gun point and Paul Thomas Anderson deciding they should keep that in the movie. Sean Penn not seeming to find that very funny made it really funny.

I just think it's insane/sad that we're living in a world where literally just mentioning the crimes of your pedophiliac authoritarian dictator and his pedo oligarchs can be considered "shocking."

Like if this was happening at any other time in history that would be a throw away line on even the most tame late night talk show. But we can't even live in a world where we acknowledge reality right now bc Trump will just sick his dollar store Charlie Brown on anyone that hurts his fee fees.

Do you remember how often and for how long we heard jokes about Clinton getting a BJ from every late night host on network TV? Yet even mentioning the elites at Club Ped (without even naming any of them) is somehow pushing the limit?

I was just telling my husband my very first memory of Conan O'Brien on TV was watching one of his "In the year 2000" sketches. The line was "DNA analysis will reveal the stain on Monica Lewinsky's dress to be mustard... From Bill Clinton's Penis!!!"

Still think of that scene to this day every time I eat mustard.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

I suspect Russia must have been beaming microwaves at the microphone.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 55 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

Oh shit! How could he say something so edgy and controversial?

Of course the audience was stunned. It must have been quite the shock to the senses. Having an ice cold glass of, literally just facts, splashed into the face of America.

I bet Brenden Carr is so pissed he can't travel back in time and cancel the Tonight Show when it was still funny.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 10 hours ago

The article isn’t even accurate. The audience wasn’t “stunned”. They cheered and applauded louder for the Epstein joke than any of the jokes before or after.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 33 points 11 hours ago

Lol, nobody watching the Oscar’s was “schocked” by somebody joking about Trump and Epstein. It’s literally the core audience for those jokes.

That's our Consie

Does anyone have a link where we can watch the full Oscars online? (not live)
