Wow, thanks Karl Marx, I didn't know this, I'll go try it now

[–] Emanuel@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago

This feels tailored to me, as I had this exact experience starting to play Demon's Souls just last week

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And I'm over here like when will I find time to play Chrono Trigger lea-ugh

The best time to play Chrono Trigger was 1994. The second best time is now, comrade!

Are there any particularly interesting PS3 exclusives? The ones that come to mind are Metal Gear Solid 4 (which is getting a PC port in August), the Uncharted games, Demon's Souls (presumably the screenshot there?), The Last of Us (now has a PC port), whatever Gran Turismo game is on there...and that's all I've got, although I'm sure there's more. The unported games I mentioned don't really appeal to me, but I'm sure there's something on there I'd like.

the old wisdom was 'ps3 has no games but great graphics' around the time. I have a feeling upside of graphics would fall short these days

lol

Resistance 2 and 3 were fun

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

I remember being blown away by (footage of) Resistance 1, but I have no idea how good those games actually were—maybe I'll give them a go to see if it was worth the hype! And holy crap, they released THREE on the same platform? Honestly forgot it even had sequels.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

there's stuff that runs better on the ps3 emulator than the 360 one i guess.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The old God of War trilogy I guess?

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Oh, how could I forget! I'm not much of a hack-'n'-slash person, but that'll be a big draw for many.

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're forgetting Heavenly Sword, which was considered one of the PlayStation exclusives of the time

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

I must have read about this one but I have absolutely no memory of it

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I interpret this as in current treatlerite society, the conditions wouldn’t be there for Marx to invent socialism. So instead of creating socialist literature he would be distracted by video games

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Ironically our treats are the net result of the Chinese education system and economic planning enabling mass production of high tech goods at an unforeseen scale. Would prefer the productive forces to go to prefab housing and trains but thems are the breaks.

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

It could be seen as a rejection of capitalism by emulating old games for free on existing hardware instead of buying new.

And apparently he had no strict schedule, would wake up at noon, do whatever for a while, then sit down and write for hours. So maybe he'd wake up at 12, play Resistance until 8, then write until 4 in the morning

[–] EstraDoll@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

oh shit, maybe I'll finally be able to play Yakuza Dead Souls one of these days

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It runs fine under emulation, but it’s the worst game in the series by a very wide margin.

[–] EstraDoll@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

worse than anything made Y:6 and beyond? I'd be surprised if that were true

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Then prepare to be surprised when you play it.

Everyone posting about their good rpcs3 experiences and meanwhile I was blocked from getting more than 20 minutes into mgs4 by unavoidable crashes kitty-cri

Marx: I am quite fond of Sly Cooper

I can totally imagine him being into the most niche emus imaginable, maybe even on the modding side, and Engels would have been too, and that's how they would have bonded, the whole young Hegelian deal would be secondary.

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

PS3 emulation is such a seamless experience. Even on my Batocera machine (which can be a tad clunky to set up backbend stuff at times), it runs like a dream

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Btw Champagne.pages.dev is a great way to find pirate stuff

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

hmmm, I'll have to have a look if they have the files to make ShadPS4 work. I don't really want to jailbreak my GF's PS4

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago
