Fixing the MIC to get it ready for a real war would require overhauling it to work more or less like it did at the peak of WW2. That means 90%+ taxes, strict government oversight on all programs, business "owners" being more or less completely under Washington's control, etc. Never gonna happen in a million years - the current MIC is doing exactly what it was actually designed to do, which is provide a kayfabe for funneling public money into private hands and occasionally blow up poor people who can't fight back.

Dems haven’t been “doves” since Carter and we all know the truth about the Carter admin, it’s so fucking stupid that they still think this ghost of a stigma applies. Why? Because of a bunch of opinion makers who think cable news is still important, fucking bean counters that think they can see the future in landline cold calls to Meemaw, shit hasn’t been true my entire life and I’ve been around for four decades.
I think it's more like they don't care if they lose to the other half of their fascist party. Popularity just isn't that important to them, and there's no particular reason it should be. They are succeeding at the only thing they contemporaneously exist for: to ensure there's never a leftist who can win.
