Masallah, he was martyrd with a Quran in hands.

Allegedly AI per this channel. They know more about the room than I do and say it was generated off of this photo of shaheed Khamenei meeting with the family of shaheed Soleimani

Original 12/1/23

Chair taller in AI

Carpet and bookshelf different colors

The actual location of his assassination

[–] Syndication@lemmy.today 6 points 6 days ago

Also, there isn't a window/curtain in the real photo.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago

Unlike the US leader, he can read

[–] dead@hexbear.net 23 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It looks like PressTV deleted the post. I'm not sure why.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 23 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Possibly AI? It's kinda got those vibes with the whole layout.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

It doesn't look like AI. Three identical small tables with consistently sized parallel slats, consistently shaped and spaced carved details on the board in the couch, everything's the right scale, uncanny and awkward lighting consistent with a room like that but not consistent with professionally framed and lit pictures AI is trained on, and everything's just sort of realistically unphotogenic and just a bit off in a way AI doesn't do.

It could be edited with AI to alter the composition somehow, but I'd say most of it is an actual photo of a room.

[–] The_hypnic_jerk@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

yeah if this is AI it's the best I've seen yet and I'll admit we're fucked if that's where it is.

Looks like a cheap building, that's the uncanny thing about it. world leader sitting in a crummy office space

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Looks cheap because of the hideously dated decor but I suspect that is just what he liked.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

Elderly folks are the same everywhere.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I thought AI instantly but not based on any tells or cues in the image. Just the timing makes me suspicious because it seems like something with a lot of propaganda potential for galvanising the population during presumably extremely trying times to say the least.

It's the Solemani picture right next to him that makes me think it's at the very least altered. I know he was a martyr, but just having a framed picture of him positioned perfectly for the CCTV to see is odd. You'd expect it to at least be on a wall or something.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I mean the room is austere but he was literally a cleric.

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Who puts all that shit tightly in one corner and leaves a bunch of empty carpet around it? What kind of room is this?

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

I mean it's kind of a textbook reading nook... Albeit a sparse one.

[–] dead@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I'm not sure why the publicly-owned Iranian news station would post an AI photo of Khamenei.

It's possible that it is a real photo but not the last photo. I tried doing reverse image search and didn't find any results.

PressTV is a reliable source. On the wikipedia page, it lists the URL presstv.ir and then you go to that URL and it lists their twitter account in the top right corner of the webpage.

Only saying that because they removed it (which they would do if it was since they're a good news source). Might have been a bad source. Could also be that they decided it wasn't appropriate? Who knows

[–] dead@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago

I found that i still have the PressTV tweet open in one of my browser tabs. screenshot below.

no, they actually had even stated that he would not be in hiding. he was martyred at home with his family. i think it makes sense too, i mean he was in his 80's and had spent his life looking forward to one day giving his life for the Islamic Republic, and this certainly sends a fundamentally stabilizing and unifying message to the people.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago (3 children)

He should have sent his family and guards away tbh

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago (2 children)

with peace and love i don't think my amerikkkan ass has any right to suggest what any Iranian should or should not do, did or did not choose for themselves. however, i have to assume that they must have been aware of the risk. there is such a notion as duty that often transcends an individual's self-interest.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It makes sense to me that someone could have a number of reasons for taking the risk, but at least one of the martyred family members was a young child, right? Or did she just happen to die at around the same time with all the bombing going on?

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago

that's not a detail i'm familiar with.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

True but still if I was expecting the Great Satan to try and blow me up I'd tell my daughter-in-law and granddaughter to clear out at least and get them into a bunker

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 3 points 5 days ago

sure, but that's kind of the point i'm making? that i don't think it's actually appropriate to pretend like i can put myself into that decision making process, as i sit here in the bowels of the great satan that murdered him?

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sending away the guards would be just asking for Israel to send some agent they have to kill him on the pretext of "The Iranian people rising up!" or something asinine like that.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 3 points 5 days ago

that's a great point

[–] dead@hexbear.net 33 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It says he was in his office. People have been saying that he wanted to be martyred, so he was not hiding. PressTV is a public international news station in Iran.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Damn, that's bittersweet, here I thought he was in hiding when he was killed.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 35 points 6 days ago (2 children)

He chose to be martyred and the empire delivered the gift to him. It's believed he had a terminal cancer diagnosis. Legendary chess.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago

Hits close to home with me and my dad's cancer. Sometimes people just want to go out on their own terms and I get that.

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

He is a cancer survivor, maybe it came back?

[–] regul@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 22 points 6 days ago

There's a lot of reasons to be crying in Iran lately

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I wanted to say something about the tissues and the couch, but I didn't want to come off as insensitive.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What’s wrong with the couch? Looks cool

With cameras 🤔

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago

Get your mind out of the gutter. It is easy to be overcome with emotion while reading the words of Allah.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

For a second I thought that was a picture of Jeffery Epstein on the table.

[–] dead@hexbear.net 23 points 6 days ago

The photograph on the table is Qasem Soleimani, who was an Iranian Military Leader that the US assassinated in January 2020. Soleimani is also considered to be a martyr so it is fitting that Khamenei would choose to be martyred with this photo.

After the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, Iranian News agency IRIB said that Americans don't know what it's like to lose a hero like Soleimani because Americans only have fake heroes like Spiderman and Spongebob.

if you looked at a living room in australia and saw those doilies, the couch would also be wrapped in protective plastic

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

NO wall-art? Everything crammed in a corner? Harsh overhead lights? Bad office vibes due to no windows? Okay the guy deserved the missiles.
You can't be that old and still live in a sad-boy home.

I'm allowed to say this because it's AI.

catgirl-salute You do what you can, at such old age...
