This is the epitome of has-been. This lineup could have been on one of those shows about hasbeens on VH1 in 2005. There should be some kind of new word for someone this far beyond their moment of influence, like hashasbeen or something. A celebrity past their heyday used to become a wacky TV guest maybe 10 years after they were famous, then fade into obscurity. But with these people it's been 40 or 50 years since they were last famous. That's unreal to me

How is Mili Vanilli there? They got laughed out of reality in 1990.

rural county fair level talent

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago (3 children)

that would've at least been Journey or Cheap Trick

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

Slipknot are regulars at the Iowa state fair

Don't forget about Foreigner. But for real Journey is too tied up with the court battle between their guitar and keyboard players. The keyboard player's wife is actually like Trump's spiritual adviser.

The county fair circuit is where acts go to when they can't get booked anywhere else but they're not quite ready to die. It's like the farm upstate your parents sent the dog to.

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago

trump-drenched It's pretty obvious, but you Loony Lefties simply wouldn't understand. It's the 250 year celebration, so we booked music from 250 years ago!

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 36 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Honestly surprised he couldn't get Kanye. Maybe that apology was somewhat sincere

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago

I'd imagine their target demo with this is boomers and gen x'ers, who are not ready to hear the hotness Ye is putting out about the KKK being good.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Kanye would cost more money than all of these has beens put together and then doubled. Kanye is also a has been but a more recent one.

After EVERYTHING Kid Rock has done to ENSURE our National Security I"m APPALED he isn't On Here!

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

You're going to have to give the District of Columbia two senators if you want to start calling it a state fair.

"Young MC"

*Is clearly 60 years old*

[–] anonochronomus@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fitting. Low rent acts to celebrate a shithole country. I usually do a pretty good job of keeping my mouth shut and my ears open but I'll step up to the plate if y'all will let me. Without doxing myself; I can tell you I made my way pretty high up in the entertainment industry; I'm professionally associated with P-Funk and the Grateful Dead and I'm now coming into my own as an internationally renowned Avant Garde Jazz Guitarist for whatever it's worth. All I can say is Amerikkka deserves has been state fare circuit performers. That's the best it can get for the good ol us of a.

MORRIS DAY and the muthafuckin' TIME!

Yeah but how many heavily rusted semi destroyed steel beams from the World Trade Center did it have on display

[–] daniyeg@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

who are these people? is it an age thing or are these people genuinely so washed? they couldn't even get some well known "controversial" and "cancelled" dipshits?

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's an age thing, the biggest names here are all people my dad listened to in the 80's. When I told him Bret Michaels and Milli Vanilli were playing he soyfaced.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

Milli Vanilli got 90s canceled for not actually singing any if their songs and lip syncing live. Vanilla Ice was "controversial" cause he was not only a white rapper in the late 80s early 90s, he was also really awful at it. But yeah, you probably dont know them cause they faded from the spotlight like 30 years ago. Im only aware if em cause of the lip syncing thing with Milli Vanilli being something people made fun of for years after cause we didnt have the internet and memes went on for years and Vanilla Ice cause of the Ninja Turtles movie he was in

The Time is worth a listen if you like prince.

Lol C&C music factory. FIrst cassette tape I ever owned. Things that make you go "Yuck". These guys fell out of favor when the absolute queen Martha ~~Walsh~~ Wash sued their asses into oblivion when they stole her vocal tracks and hired a model to sing over them.

Young MC pushing 60 with a short stick. Nothing wrong with that but when performing for a regime of feckless liars and shameless exaggerators.

And apparently Morris Day became his character from Purple Rain, very cool, should fit in with an administration that wants to throw human rights in the dumpster along with women.

Why is Milli Vanilli one guy? There were two guys back when their careers were ruined when it was discovered they couldn't sing. Famous liars, also fits.

Vanilla Ice, super predictable, another guy whose fame was based on lies.

Quite the lineup

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Why is Milli Vanilli one guy?

One of them died in 1998.

They couldn’t just get a bunch of country artists?

[–] anonochronomus@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm surprised Ted Nugent and Kid Rock aren't at the top of the list. I guess they aren't MAGA anymore, maybe they were already booked for the simultaneous alternative/after party like kid rock did for the super bowl half time show.

sad to see the commodores on here

[–] axont@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

If it makes you feel any better, Lionel Richie left the band in the late 80s and they haven't released an album since 1993. They're a corpse of a band that simply uses the name, kind of like the current Lynard Skynard.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I remember them playing a Bernie event in 2016, I think they take any gig

doomer

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Also - Milli Vanilli? That should just be Milli. Or Vanilli. One of them died.

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Milli Vanilli is the name of the duo, their names are/were Fab and Rob

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 10 points 1 day ago

Fuck that, our state fair burns this lineup to the ground.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)
