chat
Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.
As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.
Thank you and happy chatting!
Seriously, the reddit frog pot has been violently bubbling, lid rattling as jets of steam escape, for awhile now
but i have 10 year old tech support questions
its fine for that and porn but don't scroll it habitually
:yea:
Hexbear is pretty much the only Internet place I still respect. Ofc it's not perfect but I swear there's not a single other Internet third space that's actually principled
Every other social media platform is the YouTube comments section and should be treated as such
Hard agree, even other supposed leftist spaces have all kinds of bs and or ableism that keeps pissing me off or at least making me tired. Today I had 2 Portuguese mad at me and being racist in a post about GTA lol, and saw some members of the clan I'm in in Warframe discussing fucking eugenics because someone bought up some bs Switzerland is doing, good thing me and another user were countering the bs there.
Yeah nowhere is perfect but at least we put in the work to not be scumbums sometimes.
Im certain there are various discords and even smaller forums that enforce no slur usage but as I said most of those arent Marxist or even leftwing afaik.
That doesn't guarantee a place free of ableism especially, disability is kind of a litmus test to see if a person is good or some level of enthralled in status quo, if they want a sick person to live a comfortable enough life while contributing whatever said person can then they're good and if they say anything adjacent to "well they need to represent themselves well, they need to dress and speak normally" they're fucked up on some level and want to do eugenics to an extent if they can.
Ableism
Podcast: has slogan "be normal"
Podcast's Subreddit: is bigoted against people who society considers abnormal

Brace Belden, an overwhelmingly normal dude
Brace only stopped saying the r word because he thinks it's cringe because the right likes it too much now.
Like, explicitly he said this a few times.
On a chapo call in episode one of the calls was about how they keep having to defend chapo to their friends who say they use the r word. One of the chapos said "if we're still gonna get flak for this why did we even stop saying it?" To which brace replied "i never stopped saying it!"
I love the show but they've been problematic the whole time
everyone on reddit is a stupid asshole

Yeah it has a lot of semi-"ironic" cultural tailism (that is sometimes actually not ironic). They take the "be normal" dictum to mean using the slurs of the "common person" and just generally don't police many of the reactionary tendencies common on Reddit.
There's also good posters there that reject this and there's regular cross-posting there and here from among those ranks. But yeah I don't go there anymore.
Not gonna defend the trueanon sub .....but a place like Hexbear is the very rare exception from the rule. Like there are places that dont allow slur usage etc but they are usually liberal or radlibs at best. The wider internet either doesnt really care or activley encourages stuff like slur usage.
its like a bizarre 50-50 mix of DSA libs and 4chan brained chuds
every other post is like "zohran isnt perfect but hes doing a rent freeze" or "did you know that jews got kicked out of 109 countries"
I've always seen it as the cth refuge for people who really want to be able to say slurs and remain on reddit
Much like the sub that this site spawned from, it is supposed to be a space for left wing people who like edgy and vulgar humor. So yeah, there's gonna be a lot of problematic shit there. This community decided to move away from that legacy, which I think is mostly a good thing (there was a period I think we overcorrected a bit and you could be banned for even mentioning the existence of Cum Town).
It's not for everyone for sure.
I'm banned there
a lot of casual antisemitism
super fans
I done never actually sit down and listened to t_a outside of knowing who Brace is and his shenanigans on twitter. So is she an antisemite or something?
No it's just a running joke Brace makes that she's a rabid anti-semite, him and Yung Chomsky are both Jewish.
She is Polish though, so genetically anti-Semitic
Ah, I think I remember reading about Brace being jewish, weird how some of their fans are kind of bastards.
A good chunk of the sub doesn't even know there is a podcast
Unlike us who know our podcast so well that we all have a Gorkamorka-style shrine to Nima and Adam
I dunno how much to chalk up the slurs etc to being Redditors in a sub for the supreme shit poster, but for a real answer for the casual antisemitism I've seen from a few people I know in the past couple years. You have to gently explain that the Jewish population that's against having a settler colonial ethno-state do not get any media coverage and it's easy to see the amplified voices of the Zios being indicative of the opinions of the whole.
The Fairness Doctrine should mean that I get equal airplay time to talk about Jewish Voice for Nuking Tel Aviv.
I was reading it for a bit a few years ago but they seemed to really hate trans people. I remember at some point they were posting pictures of Natalie Wynn and picking apart her appearance as to whether she was passable or not. Just a general lot of commentary about trans people being freaks and stuff. It was intolerable.
Always has been lol, there are some gems but it is generally pretty shit imo
Doesn't Brace use the R slur regularly? Or am I thinking another adjacent podcast?
He's stopped but only in the last year
And he said he found it "gauche" not that it was an offensive slur

I kinda stopped listening to it unless they have a guest I am really interested in hearing from.
I blame Young Chomsky, he's a mod
It certainly hasn't been about the podcast/conspiracy culture for a while. I'm an r/TA refugee so perhaps things have changed but it really seems like the inevitable forces of reddit finally catching up with them. Memorable posters like throwaway numbers or opencommune disappearing, refugees from the latest banned 'left' subreddit not integrating, a lot of reaction/image stuff instead of interesting text posts, multi-thread discourse, etc. It's reddit.
This has been the case for a long while
Those libs banned me for DTA posting. They are so scared of getting the chapotraphouse treatment. At least r/cth died on its feet and posting untill the end. Cowards. Libs.
