Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

My favorite part about this guy is it's perfectly believable he's simply a particularly fit 48 year old. Yeah dude you figured out a healthy diet and an exercise routine will make you feel and look better. But no that's not enough, you have to make your son into a blood bag and say you've developed immortality pills.

I hate all billionaires on principle but this guy is my least favorite type. It's not enough that he has every luxury planet Earth can possibly provide. He has to be worshipped as a god too. Just start a cult, man.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He reminds me of those daoist dudes in ancient China who were like, "I'm immortal" and then they die and their adherents are like, "Bro didn't lie he just transcended his physical form."

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

Health secrets they don't want billionaires to know: drink more mercury.

All-natural cinnabar provides 10000000000% of the mercury you need to ascend to the Lunar Palace on the back of a moonbeam.

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago

My favorite thing about this guy is that he came to India, talked about the air quality and actually highlighted the issue particularly well while people were living in denial and then just fucked off.

If I was betting on it, I thought he was gonna go out via car crash

[–] HandsHeartEyes@hexbear.net 59 points 1 day ago (2 children)

His money would literally have been better spent doing general health research, which might have made progress towards a cure to his illness. But he blew it all on random bullshit targeted at himself. When he dies, it's going to be a real-life parable.

[–] average@hexbear.net 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Instead of investing in real medicine he's spent his time and money doing adrenochrome enemas or whatever the fuck...

pay for double blind studies on the effectiveness of blood boiling

"Your son was in a minor car accident, a small piece of metal did pierce his brain and he's now in a coma but the car accident was actually mild."

[–] average@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Mild coma, nothing to worry about.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

I had a minor loss of my leg

Bryan Johnson has tummy issues as well?Come on at this point just transition. He's already taking estrogen. This is stolen valour.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Women do live longer than men. If he was serious about prolonging his lifespan he would transition

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

ofc the top comments include a grifter promising a cure through "emerging science" and one of his cultists hoping their hero somehow finds a cure for both AIG and Crohn's.

[–] Sphere@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

We already figured out the cure for AIG: upwards of $100 billion in float provided by the US Treasury

[–] MattEagle@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

CAR-T cell therapies are emerging for autoimmune diseases, which sometimes lead to permanent remissions. It won't be any of his stupid research that moves that field forward though 🤭

[–] cheers_queers@lemmy.zip 68 points 2 days ago (2 children)

is this the one who gets blood infusions from his son?

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 58 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He also keeps track of his son's boners

[–] EveningCicada@hexbear.net 45 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And posts about the health of his girlfriend's vagina

And dumped his ex while she was battling cancer. Which also left her without helath insurance while she was battling cancer.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't like hearing about things like this because I hyper analyse whether my occasionally crippling IBS might actually be something horrible.

Anyway if this dude turns from immortality towards seeking a cure for something more tangible that seems like a good thing to me. Either he fails and it kills him or he succeeds and 5% of people's lives improve.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If he cures our ibs then I'll give him little a blood as a treat

[–] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He should try eating his son maybe that will fix it

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 64 points 2 days ago

Biohacker? More like Son-jacker

lmayo

[–] Dyno@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Whenever biohackers come up in the news, I'm reminded of Aaron Traywick - one of those life extension berks who injected himself with mystery fluids. I saw him on the news once and thought "he'll probably be dead soon."
Within a year he ended up K-holing to death in a sensory deprivation tank

[–] D61@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

As sung by, Moonwalker, in their song "Monopoly Money", "... and you die like the rest of us..."

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 51 points 2 days ago

He's one of the more interesting ones to watch.

Pretty funny, probably a shit way to die but he'll buy his way out of a painful and undignified end I'm sure. At least these ghouls keep getting reminded they can't buy their way out of being made of meat.

Wish it was Thiel or Musk tho. I'd settle for Mohammed Al Saud too.

Billionaires really do long for Warhammer 40K or Bioshock

Those are the kinds of worlds these vampires desperately want to live in
