even at the time it was first told it was a fantasy story about a mythologized distant past. complaining that the Odyssey doesn't have costumes accurate to the time of Homer is like complaining that Lord of the Rings doesn't have Aragorn running around in a WW2-era English army uniform
Yeah.... This isn't about costumes at all. It's about casting a woman of color as Helen of Troy.
I generally don't like virtue signaling but I just watched Odyssey the casting was on point for the entire movie. Amazing performance all around and hated Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong'o did amazing jobs - these people are 100% just racists and bigots.
I'm a Greek mythology nerd too and this is by far my favorite Hollywood take in this niche!

He's been broken since that diver rescued those kids rather than wait for Elon to build a cave diving submarine, and Musk's grown-up rational response was to call him a paedophile.
According to some that knew him, he's been broken long before that. Notably his first wife basically described exactly the man we are seeing long before that incident, but no one really took that in at the time. Even before they split up, saw a video about him taking delivery of one of his first rich person cars and on the video she already clearly thought this was some stupid bullshit.
Before folks were able to curate his public image and moderate his "creative input". He was seen as a crucial brand to maintain and powerful folks were eager to maintain the "real life Tony Stark" concept. Those are the guardrails that have worn out.
I call the rescue diver incident his public Mask Off moment. Everything before that could be considered harmless shitposts or trolling other rich people.
That’s when I realized something was seriously wrong with him, and he wasn’t just an autistic, eccentric genius.
Yeah, he's always been this person. Pretty much everyone who's ever worked with him has always described him as a contrarian twat. I think his public image started to shift soon after firing his longtime secretary/mommy Mary Beth Brown, who used to control all his public engagement.

There's a coherent, objective, and interesting interpretation of "historically accurate" that I would like to see, that being what the Greeks at the time that the poem was written imagined the poem to be describing.
(But maybe there would be too much moral dissonance for that to be a fun movie.)
