I would say most of radiohead but ever since Thom outed himself as a zionist pig I haven't been able to listen since. For old times sake though:
Exit music resonates largely because I would daydream about running away from my shitass parents and actually did it one day which follows into no surprises and my constant battle against depression and suicidal ideation.

I could go on and on and on for this one because sad music is like a good 70% of my music as sad is about 70% of my life. I won't go through all of them but general themes of struggling with addiction, depression, loss, parental abuse, low self esteem etc etc.
From a young age I thought about going to war and what that would be like. My father was quite nationalistic and even asked me once (when I was like 10 or 12 or 13) if I would enlist in a defensive war against the USA, if I was 18. When I said yes he was as proud as I'd ever seen him. I watched band of brothers with him and my brother quite often, also from a young age, I spent a lot of time trying to get inside the minds of the soldiers there, so as to understand if I could perform in that kind of environment, and what it would take to do so.
When I hear, Green Fields of France, John McDermott, it reminds me of the fear I had as a kid watching those movies/shows, wondering if one of those soldiers might be me. Through the tragedy I saw on screen I learned to steel my heart, and this song returns me to what I encased within, the innocence I buried because that's what I thought being a man was. I've been a woman my whole life, but I didn't know then. What I did know was that manhood was something I had to perform. On some level I knew being a man wasn't inherent to me, so I constructed one inside of me.
The first time I heard this song I was riding in my Dad's car, younger than the above, and so hearing the song connects me to that time, and how scary it was when I first started to reckon with the idea of whether I'd go to war in the future.
Good choice! I already know this one and have had an entire ww1 themed punk album using with the lyrics comprised of quotes and poetry from the time. I remember when the Iraq war was declared and I basically lost my fucking mind about it. I was a kid and figured if saddam had wmd a ear would be the time to use em. Got told on the drive up to my grandparent's house that they don't hsve em and it was sll bullshit and then spent the test of the night sitting in my grsndparents living room watching the bombing raids on CNN. I felt the fear I had about being bombed in retaliation shown live on tv and I knew there were kids my age living their just as scared as I just was seeing thst fear realized. That moment made me who I am.
The Kingston Trio version of Where Have All the Flowers Gone always hits hard. It's a Pete Seeger song originally but I believe it was the Kingston Trio that tacked on the extra final verse, and I think it adds a lot

Literally can't listen to this without crying because it was playing while my dog was dying as I rushed him to the vet and coincidentally right after I put my dog down and had to immediately go to work right after. I can listen to the original version of the song, any other kind of cover or remix, but this specific song is tightly associated to that trauma.
I havent heard the song before and now its about that for me. That makes it hit for me.

This album, A Crow Looked at Me, is raw expression of Phil Elverum's grief following the passing of his wife Genevieve. It's the most heart-wrenching album I've heard and it spirals me into depression any time I listen.
