My dad's friend's son has a son who is ostensibly on the spectrum. It seems like the kid self-diagnosed, but by the sounds of it it isn't a stretch. Older games in 4K look so much better than modern games in 4K and a bunch of modern rendering, upscaling, and AA techniques. Like turn down the fidelity a tad and games will just look better. I know technically subsurface scattering generates more realistic skin tones and facial animations, but stylizing faces instead looks better with a lot fewer compute cycles. Like I think we’re just making too many trade offs to add more “detail” that we can’t even see. I don’t even mean can’t see without zooming in, I mean the detail gets lost because the native resolution has to drop so all we see from the fancy stuff they add in is upscale artifacts.

Playing Skyrim with the "official" Survival mode, as in the version of the mod they made a creation and bundled for free with the upgrade. Having fast travel disabled confirms pretty much what a lot of people (myself included) have said that Skyrim is a more immersive game when you travel from city to city, bundling up your quests and goals.

The fast travel that is present is boats and wagons. I like that while they are safe and convenient, they're kind of like a long haul flight, you arrive at the destination exhausted and hungry. So you have to immediately seek out an inn or a warm bed.

I think the game would have benefited from a few more diegetic fast travel options. One option could be court mages teleporting you between Jarl's Keep, the cost could be 10x that of a wagon or boat (so 200-500 gold) but instantaneous so you don't get tired or hungry. Another limitation would be until the civil war is resolved you could only teleport between imperial or stormcloak aligned cities, with Whiterun being a neutral change over hub.

I also think scrolls of divine intervention that take you back to the nearest shrine in a city/town, as long as you are outside would be neat too.

(Yeah there's definitely mods for all this stuff, but I'm talking about how the straight out of the box game could have been better and more like Morrowind)
