All my "China experts", gone all-my-apes-gone

[–] ChairmanSpongebob@hexbear.net 70 points 5 months ago (1 children)

huh weird, I thought the reasons why Chyna is wrong were self-evident!

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 67 points 5 months ago (1 children)

No, in fact, It is difficult and time-consuming to do the work that proves Beijing is lying. Sort of like if Beijing weren't lying and it was hard work to convince everyone that China is pure evil and even considering anything they had to say was a dangerous thought contagion.

Not too different from the liberal myth that people are inherently selfish, so we have to have a capitalist police state, sorry.

Socialism can never be left uncontested by bourgeois states because it would prove that, given the opportunity, humans can cooperate. The tendency of children to share, to selflessly give to others, would be understood as natural and not an aberration that has to be corrected.

The bourgeoisie wins if people are alienated and distrust one another.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

Even if you can't base a government around socialism because of "human nature" or whatever (just arguing on their behalf here) it still proves that capitalism doesn't have to be a totalizing socially dominant ideology for society to exist and we aren't in some kind of eternal man-against-man forever war.

Like even if the cooperative model falls apart at scale and you need firmer hierarchies and shit when organizing millions of people the success of state socialist programs like China proves that that the entire society doesn't have to brutally compete to force social darwinist bullshit to succeed.

It turns out you don't need petty small business tyrants to have a fuckin grocery store.

Does this mean I won't have to hear about fucking Shen Yun anymore?

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 31 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately they are a cult amd cults tend to be pretty resilient

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If the US cuts off funding to them they'll probably stop the travelling show though.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago

I unironically actually want to watch Shen Yun—for ironic purposes, of course.

I just don't want to give them any money.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

I've got it on good authority that it's got pretty effects and choreography but still somehow boring.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

some-controversy

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 60 points 5 months ago

At least they can quietly slink away this way, instead of everyone realizing that now that people are able to easily and directly interact with Chinese people, and even privately speak with them in DMs, that the idea of "China Watcher" as a a profession is totally asinine.

Bethany, Zenz and the rest of that whole disgusting crew were going to have a much tougher time pushing propaganda going forward anyway.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 60 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

What, you don't even believe in "democracy" enough to make it's propaganda unless you get a fat paycheck out of it too? Pathetic.

[–] picklemeister@hexbear.net 48 points 5 months ago

lol post after post of immaculate self ownage

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 46 points 5 months ago

RIP anti-tankie propaganists. Here's hoping there's a mutual aid fund for special agents.

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 46 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm not on that social media site but please tell me she is getting roasted in the comments.

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 48 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

She gets relentlessly clowned on in the comments. che-smile

[–] piggy@hexbear.net 46 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

American exceptionalism strikes again. We don't need an NGO industrial complex to prove that the American governance model is deeply flawed, it's self evident.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 45 points 5 months ago

China needs an entire ecosystem of propagandists to "uncover flaws"

Meanwhile America openly drone strikes weddings and brags about their failure to overthrow Venezuela. Like what are you even talking about Bethany

[–] yoink@hexbear.net 43 points 5 months ago

guys we have to take this seriously, if we stop being racist we're gonna forget what democracy is

[–] Kieselguhr@hexbear.net 41 points 5 months ago

wait, so "you are a shill paid by the CCP" was just projection?!?! astronaut-1

[–] BlueMagaChud@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago

lol, get a real job loser lukashenko-tired

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 34 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Realistically, how long does it take for this to make any international change? After decades of propaganda, it will take a while for the brain worms to be sorted out.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 24 points 5 months ago

Watch public opinion polling, major swings (sans a major event) take around 5-7 years. Contradictions are sharpening right now so that is probably going to be shorter and more volatile.

[–] AnarchoSnowPlow@midwest.social 17 points 5 months ago

Don't worry, we'll continue to get our steady diet of brain worms in the empire.

But our friends on XHS won't keep getting stories about the president shutting down the power grid to save a bird.

[–] REgon@hexbear.net 3 points 5 months ago

Anecdotally Reddit was very leftist right after the election, almost as if someone had turned the bots off. Normally it takes a long time to change public opinion, but I think this system is so fragile it withers within months.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 29 points 5 months ago

I believe it. Do you have any idea how much it costs to employ interpreters and translators for these China experts who don't speak Chinese?

[–] userofnames@hexbear.net 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

probably being privatized? but nonetheless good to see them panic or at least worry

[–] Des@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

Privatized to some guy using chat GPT and the AI video maker

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago

Crap, I'm about to lose my job of typing different spellings of "Tianenmen Square" into Baidu and observing the results all day.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 10 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

if your ecosystem requires constant resource injection to remain sustainable you don't have an ecosystem, you have a factory farm.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

"Without being paid to lie, it's hard for me to keep telling you how much the CPC is lying."

[–] REgon@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

I wonder if this will make reddit useable. Probably not, but I wonder if user activity drops

[–] Geobloke@lemm.ee 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

At the risk of being destroyed, I thought Mao was in favour of a democracy composed of the revolutionaries classes. Why did democracy never develop?

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago (4 children)

Democracy did develop. The entire People's Congress is a system of democracy.

Any citizen without a criminal conviction can join the party (akin to registering to vote), then party members elect a representative for the grassroots/village level. Those representatives then elect people for the district/county, and those representatives then elect someone to the city/provincial level, who elect someone for the National People's Congress. The President is then chosen by the National People's Congress. No-one moves up without the support of their peers, and no-one gets to the top without demonstrating a lifetime of competence. No one gets into the system without being elected by the people, and no-one moves up in the system without being elected by their peers.
