I will be streaming a Super Bowl livestream on https://live.hexbear.net/c/news at 3:30pm PST. Come root for your team!

EDIT: Livestreams are harder to find than I thought. We're still chatting in Hextube however and there are several livestream options once you get there. Kendrick's halftime show coming up.

While many of you are likely yelling "GO BIRDS" or "GO CHIEFS!" I'm yelling "GO ROBERT MUELLER and the rule of law!"

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have never watched an American football game in my life and am just utterly baffled by the sheer amount of ads. How do people watch this shit?

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah it's not a sport it's an advertising opportunity

[–] reaper_cushions@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but so is football proper, just that there is at least a continuous game being played and televised in football proper.

[–] Sulv@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

The ads are the best part!

Sometimes we get iconic moments like pepsi

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

There are breaks in play for ads, it's nuts. Like intentional stoppage specifically to show ads

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There's on average about 11 minutes of actual game play where the ball is moving in football. The rest of the 3 hours is all commentary and ads.

I have no idea how this sport became so popular because it's like this at every level, from peewee flag football to college to the NFL.

All forms of football, rugby, gridiron, and association, are very slow games. I do not know why they are so popular, they minimize entertainment while maximizing injury to players.

I'm watching this with my American housemate it starts at 11:30 here. Why am I doing this I watched American Football once and didn't like it. The sport is weird and American TV is insane. Ads are EVERYWHERE and go on for like as long as the game?

[–] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

That's called freedom.

[–] MiraculousMM@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Not to mention that tons of people have been brainwashed into enjoying and looking forward to THE FUCKING ADS

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Watching American TV for the first time was a genuine culture shock because it's so goddamn dystopian

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It’s usually not this bad! This is particularly fucking insane. Sports are always fascist tho

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

First time in a while where I really didn't watch the Super Bowl. I caught a bit, but by the time I got home it was already 24-0. Meh.
