How is there not a single Futurama reference in the comments? I thought we were all nerds?

[–] SidewaysHighways@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

i already did!

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 79 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

What ever you do, dont tell RFK about raw cockroach milk.

[–] nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl 30 points 2 weeks ago

There are not many times I feel sorry for cockroaches, but setting RFK onto them would be one.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

He would snort lines of it ... it is crystals after all.

I'm kindof a nimby when it comes do giant cockroach farms in my area, please don't scale this up. Don't make "oops 2 billion milkroaches have escaped" a thing.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm calling it. Roach flu, next pandemic.

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago

Would've been useful knowledge while I was still living in the dorm...

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why would cockroaches HAVE milk? They don't nurse young or anything like that

[–] ArseAssassin@sopuli.xyz 36 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Cockroach milk is sourced from the Pacific Beetle cockroach, a type of roach that gives birth to live offspring and produces 'milk', which it feeds its embryos through a 'brood sac' (essentially a cockroach womb). There is, in fact, no actual 'milking' involved: scientists need to carve out the cockroach’s gut in order to access the milk, which is in the form of crystals.

[–] Oneser@lemm.ee 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's somehow even worse than my original mental image. Great work science!

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not worse as the insect shit we eat in the morning, called Honey.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Delicious bee puke, i can't wait to do a line of roachmilk.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe some recipes or how to make cheese.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

So we could smash those up and snort them, could we not?

[–] EySkibidiBabBab@feddit.dk 10 points 2 weeks ago

Nothing like snorting a fresh line of crystalized cockroach gut milk in the morning to start the day off right 🥰

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Snort milk every day

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

snorting is so...21st century.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Damn. I figured it was just grinded up cockroaches.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Is this acquired similar to how cow milk is or more like almond milk?

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 36 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Popped open the article to find out, and the answer is neither. The 'milk' is crystals collected by cutting open a particular kind of roach and extracting them from its brood sack.

There's a phrase I didn't know I'd be using today.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

What a terrible day to be able to read.

[–] DudeDudenson@lemmings.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

I wonder what kind of research goes in a lab where someone goes "what if we cut the grub from the pregnant cockroach and test to see it's nutrition content?"

[–] meme_historian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

Bam! Right in the brood sack

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I wondered the same, but do we really want to know?

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Just read the other reply and I can now say no I wish I didn't know.

[–] nectar45@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I would rather drink piss than cokroach milk

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In libertarian free market you won't even know what you're drinking. Just the prices.

[–] nectar45@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Who's Greg? You mean Gaylord. Gaylord Focker

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Fundamental commodities for a space game: baobab trees, eels, crystal milk, serfs.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I definitely assume that Palmetto Cheese is just ground-up palmetto bugs.

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago
[–] socsa@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

And somehow, just as disgusting

[–] houstoneulers@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Don't give the Springfield mob any ideas now...
