Its almost as if theyve been under some sort of trade embargo for decades or something.

I work with a (libertarian? He's a fan of Milei) who doesn't believe there's an embargo, and that the Cuban government just destroys dollar bills. I asked him if there's no embargo, why is there a UN vote to end it like almost every year? Then he says 'oh, well a few a things are banned, yes'.

[–] dumpster_dove@hexbear.net 58 points 10 months ago

There are gusanos who insist that the economic difficulties are entirely the Cuban government's fault, but at the same time it is vitally important that the embargo remains in place

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 46 points 10 months ago

Ask him if there's no embargo why is there a memo from the secretary of inter American affair's or whatever from the 50s going "we're going to embargo cuba specifically to make life shitty enough for regime change"

There's actually a lib talking point that nerd "the embargo is actually overblown they receive products all the time"

Very Redditor to believe that anecdotal evidence is empirical if you get enough people to agree with your assumptions

Reminder that r/WorkReform was started by a literal Wall Street banker lmao

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 58 points 10 months ago

As a competitor to /r/antiwork coz libs got upset at how radical it was lmao

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 57 points 10 months ago

Why?

Because they chose revolution. Not reform.

Post is in /r/workreform, the subreddit created by canadian bankers who participated in the antiwork hitjob.

Gee I wonder why they dont have all the meds they need and no sheets. Must be those lazy commie doctors right?

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 29 points 10 months ago

The "no sheets" thing is especially silly. Most hospital beds for in-patient care in the US use non-woven fabric bed covers that are hydrophobic. You know, so you don't get blood and shit and piss and vomit all over everything and have to constantly throw out sheets and mattresses because someone blew their covid snot everywhere. You just sit on top of the hydrophobic material and get blankets stacked on you. Pillows are the covered in the same material.

I know this because I was in the trauma care unit where I bled and vomited and peed all over everything. It makes sense Cuba does the same thing. I guess the worms would prefer to live in other people's bodily fluids? "Freedom is when you have bed sheets covered in goo because the hospital just washes them really well or something idk I'm not a doctor."

“obviously quality of life is so much fucking higher”

for you, cracker

for some dude living under a bridge in the freest country on earth do you think if you told him he could go live in cuba where he would be guaranteed housing, food, education, and healthcare , he wouldn’t have a massive increase in quality of life? even for your average working poor american, what do these people think is better? struggling and scraping just to barely get by, with no money to have anything fancy, and no money for necessities? or still not having anything fancy but at least getting necessities, again like healthcare housing etc?

i really hate to pull a “these people are just too privileged to get it” but sometimes thats really what it is. they have it so good in this country that they’re blind to how the rest of us have it here. they think when their waiter is done serving them they go get served at a fancy restaurant in THEIR time off (if they even get any)
