Given a quadropoly and they still fuck it all up. Time to nationalize them and turn them into a crown corporation. If we are not going to have real competition, we might as well get them to work for us for a change.

MODERATORS
They charge the highest rates in the known universe for every type of service.
(And have what amounts to a monopoly on telecom, sports, news, and entertainment)
How are they in debt? (And why should I give any fucks ?)
Just another one of those amazing Conservative fantasies where failed private company after failed private company but they're still supposed to be so much more efficient than government ones.
And to top it off the myth of private companies being ran poorly not costing the public. Because when these guys start failing and threaten our national infrastructure they're going to ask for "hand outs" on top of the ones they already get.
Nuh-uh, there's certain underdeveloped areas of Africa with more expensive internet than Toronto! /s
Actually, I can't rule out Starlink having changed the calculus there, even.
Charge all the execs out the fucking sss to get the money back.
Then nationalize telecom services.
Problem fucking solved.

What they have is a money printer. Most of the work they do does appear to be bullshit, but when you're running a monopoly you should be able to get away with that. WTF.
I don't know much about the finances of Canada's cozy little club of giant telecoms but it's very tempting to imagine that they became accustomed to ever-increasing profits as they jacked up the prices to unsustainable levels over the past twenty years, and now they've finally hit the point where it cannot be sustained any more. The line no longer goes up. Maybe it's not exactly the final crisis of capitalism, but it's a start.
This ^. Our shaw bundle started out about $95 and year over year they increased fees, until it hit $225 a month. At that point I dropped everything and went with a lesser plan at $110. Bell Mobile did the same with my wife's phone plan, no phone since it was paid for, but $100 a month for terrible plan. We switched to Koodo for $35 a month and more data. Bell called and said they could do $85 a month, lol, why would I pay $50 more for no gain. Both situations the companies could have had a loyal customer but they had to let greed eliminate a paying customer.
