I could be okay, but I also wouldn't purposely get such a large space when I don't plan to fill it with stuff. Just give me space big enough for the matress and desk.

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 61 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I love that you look at this and say "woah, that's way too much, I prefer less"

[–] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If it means lower rent then hell yeah!

there are teensy tiny municipally-owned apartments available in a city near me for like 200€ per month and i'm absolutely planning to get one if i ever get an income, they're so smol that the "kitchen" is a recessed wardrobe with a sink and like 2 hotplates, which honestly considering how we have perfectly decent bags of frozen meals that you can just toss in a pot for 10 minutes is perfectly acceptable for a single-person household!

Ain't no home without enough open space for all kinds of push ups! If you're daring, you could even do other exercises too!

Had to take my coffee table out of my living area to get enough room in my apt. Only other option would have been moving my pc to bedroom and tossing out my bedframe

Low carbon footprint living gets way more hate than it should (and it shouldn't get any).

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm too old to be getting down on the fucking ground like that. Needs a frame of cinder blocks and plywood.

[–] Blemgo@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

You should do that anyways. Bed frames exost for a reason: it helps to stop moisture building up on the underside of the mattress, and thus prevents mold.

Out of frame: a huge ass TV and a single armchair.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 weeks ago

Why have an armchair? Just roll the gaming chair over

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 weeks ago

Throw in a server rack and it’s perfect.

[–] telllos@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This shit is putting men in a box and " hu duh, men basic, like dog"

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

What would you add other than a better bed?

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

mini fridge for beer

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Well, for starters, a bed frame. Lamps for better lighting, an couple night stands, something to divide up the space a bit (assuming this is a studio), book shelves, some plants, some art on the walls, an area rug, table and chairs, and a couple couches and a coffee table, some kind of speaker system, some kind of storage system for any equipment I own for job and hobbies. I also like wooden desks.

Like, the environment you spend time in has an impact on your mental state. Making that environment nice will make you feel better. The way your living space looks also says a lot about you. What this space says is "I literally do nothing but sleep and look at a computer screen". Which is less "hell yeah" and more "this cyberpunk dystopia isnt as neon as I expected."

So if this is what you want, then follow your bliss I guess. But also, if you are having trouble dating.... Look around you.

Needs a motorcycle being rebuilt in it, with that much open space

It's a bit much for me, as I'd want the mattress more elevated, but let me tell you, I am 99% sure I have adhd, and minimalism like this appeals to me so it's less shit I have take care of, every item in your house is a fucking dust collector that you have to wipe down, fuck that shit, I only want the absolute essentials, rest is slowly going to the bin

Men? Look at this flooring, look at this lighting project! Amazing place

[–] Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It is just missing a cinder block nightstand and a dead plastic plant to tie the place together.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dead plastic plant. For when you want everyone to know you are irresponsible, but without the responsibility

I bet a Hot Wheels would roll real good on that floor.

[–] mirisgaiss@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

hell, I wish I had something more like that and not a house full of shit I don't use most of the time.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 weeks ago

This may be too much even

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 weeks ago

Looks great. Even has guest bedroom.

[–] lorty@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I don't get why people hate on this. Do all the useless nick-nacks actually add something to their lives?

If this is all you need, what's the problem?

I wish I had this much room to practice the blade.

To be fair, some women would say that too. There's so much room to build stuff and do projects! I could get so fucking irresponsible!

[–] Pendorilan@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah man, I need an actual bed lol

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago

I don't need a bed, but an air mattress is a HARD no.

I'd rather sleep on a clear carpet with a blanket.

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The minimal furniture and a sense of free space are great for my mental health. A cluttered home to me feels like a cluttered mind. I don't want to live in a cage of excess stuff, much like I don't want to carry unhealthy mental baggage with me, pulling me down. You may see a sparse room, but I see freedom from sensory fatigue. I see freedom.

I lived like this the first year of my postdoc and couldn't have been happier. I had 4 place settings but only used one and washed it after every meal. Desk, computer, one camp chair, and an inflatable mattress. Stayed that way until my wife joined me my second year and made me get a real apartment.

[–] sdfric88 8 points 2 weeks ago
[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

This is my room, less space and bigger bed. More screens too ofc

[–] BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I need three desks. Modern PC desk, retro PC desk, and a soldering desk. Otherwise, perfect.

[–] astutemural@midwest.social 7 points 2 weeks ago

Look at all the space for a mini painting station

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago
[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Twice as many mattreses as needed.

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Only missing a giant TV.

I'm a man and all I can see is all the dust this huge surface area will collect

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Having more stuff doesn't mean less dust. It means more things with dust on it.

[–] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You can keep your living space as clean or dirty as you like. With all the open space you can use those big duster mops.

Probably take like 5 minutes. Those are over a meter wide
