They wrote this essay only because a one poweruser left, lol

It was a rather sombering thread, that echoed quite a bit of what I've been saying about .ml, the Triad, general toxicity of their Tankie "ideology" for months now.

I know @ptz@dubvee.org was speaking of general toxicity, but the Triad is a huge chunk of it, the culture they create...festers it. They comprise the bulk of the hostility, I've personally seen it over and over and over again. All the "Just go back to Reddit" or "just another lib Redditor refugee" comments for someone that dared to have nuance.

Hell, I saw hex users fucking cheering .ee's shutdown because it was some sort of psyop/CIA/fed/lib/"They didn't perfectly agree with me" instance. They call feddit.org a "Nazi Zionist" instance for the crime....of not wanting to be arrested and complying with German law...

I haven't looked to see if they've started any "celebratory" posts about Dubvee yet and I also don't really want to, if they're there, I already know what they're going to say in it -_-

Unfortunately, I fear the problem was far worse than I thought.

Ptz speculated that the toxicity has "metastasized". And you know what? He might be right, it seemed to be a lot better off 2 years ago, now....now I feel we might be losing the battle against the toxicity and I don't think PieFed will be enough. Complacency has set in

My hope was that with enough instances defederating from .ml and the rest of the Triad, it would be a tad easier to take down toxic Tankies, trolls and their alts. But, few wanted to burn the bridge with the toxic main devs' instance and now it might be too late. (Cheers to @Illecors@lemmy.cafe and the lemmy.cafe instance, one of the few of note to actually defederate from the entire triad!)

Like ptz said and I fully agree with, this place started with promise 2 years ago, but it appears to be ultimately morphing into 4chan (or like I've been saying, Voat 2.0) after all

Oh well, I've got some thick ass skin so I'll probably be here till the end, till the last sane instance shuts down.

I'll see you there @dessalines@lemmy.ml

/Sadmemerant

Heck, maybe I'll do a hail Mary and start an instance on a custom fork of lemmy with "normie proof" onboarding while dumping a few hundred in ADs (Maybe even on Reddit itself, HA!). I'll flood this place with "normies" LMAO

imagine if you had to write a long essay about how this is the end of hexbear everytime a poweruser left

we are a Nazi bar, showcasing tankie philosophy and various other purity tests

Everyone has their own purity tests, which nobody can seem to pass. There is FAR too much USA politics on Lemmy (and I’m speaking as an American citizen).

fain-wut

I remember being so confused when I first joined, because I saw the hexbear communities constantly posting insane stuff like hoping Biden would die, or using “lib” as an insult, and I assumed they were a conservative instance.

peltier-laugh

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 79 points 5 days ago

Libs cant stand the purity test of being anti-genocide

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 61 points 5 days ago

Libs are so fixated on the tyranny of purity tests that this one doesn't understand that the Nazi bar, as a malus, is literally the opposite kind of thing, where the problem is being permissive. Just fucking chirping whatever phrases of bad things that they happen to think of.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 55 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

What the fuck are these people talking about.

You're not federated with us. You don't fucking see anything unless you specifically come here.

Fuck off. Stop coming to communities you don't like and you won't see people telling you that your takes are consistently morally abhorrent and that you are terrible treat piggies brought up by even more terrible treat piggies in the imperial core of a horrific empire whose livings standards are achieved by exploiting 80% of the world and holding back the development of billions and billions of people so that they can continue to be exploited and their resources stolen for profits to be imported into the core so you can sit in your cozy armchair provided by blood and skulls where you tell us that we're the problem for pointing this out. You consider us "toxic" because you don't want to be reminded that your lives are provided by blood. It makes you feel guilty. You prefer to forget it because you feel powerless about it and don't want to feel like a bad person for trying to ignore it. This causes you deep discomfort because you fucking know we're right. If you didn't think we were right you wouldn't feel anything over this. We would just be a footnote. Not a constant thing boring into the guilty conscience in part of your brain day in day out preventing you from forgetting we exist.

Fuck off liberal.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 40 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They've convinced themselves that anyone who disagrees with them is a secret tankie alt hellbent on sowing disunity across the fediverse. It's really convenient since they can avoid ever having to admit they were in the wrong about something. In reality I would be shocked if even a tenth of the regular posters here made alts to post on those instances. Only the most masochistic users and the most determined lib converters could tolerate reading the awful things these people post every day.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 38 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I literally do not visit these people. I do not care about them. They think they are far more important than they actually are.

Why the fuck would I waste my time disagreeing with people that don't think Israel is all bad 2 years into a genocide when I can be managing communities that get 10million+ visitors per week? Or making stupid tiktoks that sometimes get fucking millions of views in just 24 hours? They're literally a complete and total waste of time. What impact would I be having by arguing with them every day via alts? Fuck all. We decided to just ban all harry potter nerds on a fucking whim with no real intentions and accidentally caused an internet-wide drama that resulted in mainstream media reporting on "the boycott" (lmao), there's so many better ways to generate massive impact that don't involve arguing with debate perverts on servers with a few tens of thousands of members.

They've convinced themselves that they're important when they're not. The real political theater of operations are the platforms filled with people whose brains haven't been cooked by propaganda, or in spaces where media heads are using as cultural touchposts to take cues for stories. It's not fucking liberal instances on lemmy.

Why the fuck would I waste my time disagreeing with people that don’t think Israel is all bad 2 years into a genocide

I classify my time spent interacting with most of the power users there as a form of self-harm which I try to minimize, generally.

I don't get the alt fixation with so many users, the first thing that I ran into starting on lemmy was getting accused of being a hexbear alt. I mean I made an account here eventually, but more as a consequence of all the fearmongering than anything else.

A no-name, 0 credits university in fucking Cyprus published a laughable "research" with dubious data and even worse analysis about "tankie extremism" that was completely ridiculed.

That would not be alarming on it's own, but now I'm seeing fedposters cite that article. You can find it on that thread.

This is rather alarming to me.

hexbear-specter

Blaming Hexbear for all your woes when Lemmy.world has never even federated with us is just the perfect spectre analogy. "The fact that commies are just chilling out somewhere is a threat to our existence!"

Lemmy just another victim of communism smdh victim-of-communism

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 48 points 5 days ago (2 children)

They do, they have lead a big campaign against him calling for a "boycott" of lemmy.ml, all they have achieved is making people angry at them for stealing posts and havent moved any comm outside of ml (they are currently in their 3rd palestine comm)

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 30 points 4 days ago (5 children)

There's inevitably going to be a split between us and the redditeur instances, it's only a matter of time.

Probably around an election or something.

What a toxic little freak

[–] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 33 points 4 days ago

Didn't know this instance existed, never seen it let alone interacted with it. Now I am getting news that being a part of this supposed triad I may have contributed to it shutting down. God help these people.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 29 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Of course .world and fed.did.it that are crying about "tankies" existing, how surprising

Blaming Hexbear and Grad for the downfall of an instance that's not federated with either of us is a good bit.

I guess we aimed our cyber Havana Syndrome guns at them until they logout

"Wow, the main developers of this obscure social media site has a shitty ideology. I guess I'll just go to another social media site because the obscure social media site isn't big enough to make me want to stick around despite the main dev's shitty ideology." - People with stupid political beliefs who are nevertheless still normal

[–] thoro@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

I have legitimate disdain for the .world fediverse comm. It seems to exist as an outlet for liberal/reactionary devs to advertise their Lemmy competitors and push people there.

And they're entirely consumed by the idea of growth even if that would mean shifting the dominant culture rightward, when the leftist bent of Lemmy is exactly why I use it. If I want Reddit, I can go to Reddit.

[–] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 37 points 5 days ago
