Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called out one-time ally Donald Trump for abandoning the core promises behind his “Make America Great Again” movement.

“MAGA is, I think people are realizing, it was all a lie,” she told YouTube host Kim Iversen. “It was a big lie for the people.”

The Trump administration, she said, is all about serving “big, big donors,” including foreign countries and large corporations, with many funneling cash to Trump’s PACs and pet projects such as his White House ballroom to win favor.

“People watching Fox News, every day, 24/7 with their volume turned all the way up in their living room and it’s so loud that you can’t hear anything else? Those are the baby boomers and God bless them, those are my parents’ generation. I love so many of the baby boomers, but they are the most brainwashed generation because they eat that crap, like, they just eat it up all day long. They’re spoon-fed the propaganda on TV.”

Damn, MTG over here spitting facts. She did lean into that propaganda hard, so can't really give get a pass. But still good to see her speaking some truth.

[–] MasterNerd@lemmy.zip 17 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Given how many bullshit conspiracy theories she's peddled over the years, she doesn't have much ground to stand on

[–] n1ck_n4m3@lemmy.world 21 points 15 hours ago

No, but I'd still rather she be peddling the truth now than never. She doesn't get a pass and I don't forgive her, but I welcome anyone who wants to stop preaching bullshit, no matter how heinous the shit they used to say was.

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 47 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I hope she gets hot coals shoved up her ass when she dies and goes to hell. The video she filmed, before she was in Congress, yelling at David Hogg and the other highschool victims when they were going to testify in front of Congress is unforgivable. I don't care how many mea culpas she does, she is a broken person that deserves every bit of hate she gets.

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 20 points 16 hours ago

That said, don’t stop her now

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 101 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Better late than never, I guess? I'm sure this pivot is at least partially self-serving, but we need all the allies we can get against Dickless Jackass Trump.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 78 points 21 hours ago (8 children)

Yup, I'd never consider Greene an ally. But, the enemy of my enemy is a useful tool against my enemy. The more conservative voices calling out Trump's corruption and self-serving, the better. The MAGA base is never going to listen to anyone who is politically to the left of Atilla the Hun, but someone like Greene may be able to peel a few of them off into the "disaffected, non-voters" camp.

[–] U7826391786239@lemmy.zip 27 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

the people who need to internalize what she's saying... they don't listen to women

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 18 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

Give Marjorie credit for at least figuring it out. Although a very tiny, tiny proportion of MAGAts ever see consequences, women seem to be overrepresented:

  • Marjorie's experience recently getting shut out of running for Senate or Governor by the MAGA establishment is at the top of her mind, of course.

  • Elsie Stefanik drew the short stick too, she was nominated to be UN Ambassador, and a bunch of other Republicans in the House were also nominated for positions in the administration. All those other men got their promotions, but when it was time to affirm Elsie's they told her the House majority was now too thin. Then she launched her own campaign for NY governor, only to find that once a male Republican announced his campaign, all her support evaporated.

  • And with all the problems recently with ICE, from Trump to Stephen Miller and all down the chain, I bet Kristi Noem will be the first to face any consequences. She might be offered up as a sacrifice to keep the rest of it going.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 14 points 20 hours ago

She knew the whole time. But she was in the inside of the grift. Now she got pushed out and is mad about it.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Give Marjorie credit for at least figuring it out

Don't think she didn't know it was a grift the entire time. She got in, got hers and is now getting out so she can do the whole 'news consultant' gig. The only thing I'll give her credit for is that she might just open a couple of eyes... but I don't think she's doing that out of a sense of service to her country, but instead it is just part of her personal rebranding.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 12 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

They all know it's a grift. She wanted the grift. What she figured out is that she will never really be part of the boys' club. When consequences are forced onto them, they will land disproportionally on the ones without penises.

[–] HairyOldCoot@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago

MTG is smart*, amoral, and self interested. Of course she'd be one of the first rats off the ship.

  • To quote Bob "Act like a dumb shit, and they'll treat you as an equal."
[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 4 points 17 hours ago

I hate this all or nothing monolith mindset. No, not all of the MAGAts are the same. There are some who will see her saying this and leave. Your mindset is one of failure, where there's nothing to be done (besides civil war, which won't be as nice as you think). We need to spread that it's even too bad for her, and she was one of the most ardent supporters. Let them know all the "good" things they wanted were bullshit. We can get some of them to leave.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Atilla the Hun is actually too left for them, he actually listened to the patriarch of Rome and didn't kill him. Also had the good sense to die after fucking shit up, wine makes a damned good blood thinner and he fucked himself up on it before getting a bloody nose.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

Apparently Trump loves pounding aspirin, so we have that going for us.

She's gunning for a run at the presidency, mark my words.

[–] Waldorf@infosec.exchange 51 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

@MicroWave Let's not forget WHO Marjorie Taylor Green really is! She's sick and divisive and has no respect for America. A turd doesn't smell better just because it's flushed!

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 39 points 19 hours ago

I don’t see this as MTG being a good guy.

I see this as MAGA eating itself. And I’m here for that.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

she's making a lot of money though. weird how being a psycho turd makes you rich from booksales and media appearances.

almost as if she mostly cares about that. as do most of the politicians and pundits...

[–] Waldorf@infosec.exchange 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

@TubularTittyFrog The real tell is that there are 12,000 registered Lobbyists in DC. Their reporting reveals that in 2023 they distributed over $4Billion dollars to members of Congress from their special interest groups.

Statistically when they leave Congress, they become Lobbyists and make in excess of 6 times what they made from the people!

None of them are there to serve their constituents! Giving money directly to a Congressperson is "BRIBERY" but our Supreme Court says that giving it to a lobbyist and he gives it to a Congressperson is ....

FREE SPEECH and protected by the 1st Amendment!

crooked bastards, all of them!

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

people behave according to incentives that reward certain behaviors, and punish others.

i used to work in policy. good policy gets you voted out of office, and makes everyone hate you. You don't get rich from pursuing a broad-based policy that improves the lives of your constituents. a lot of people i met... were smart and open about this. there was no reason to be a 'good' politician because nobody pays you for it, and the voters tend to vote you out for it.

there are some cases where that isn't true, of course. but usually limited to smaller districts/states with more homogeneous populations

She's just mad that she got frozen out of the boys club. She was one of the biggest fundraisers in the party— she did her "duty" and only after she got stiffed did she figure out that there is no honor among thieves.

If this caterwauling troll had gotten her bag she'd have had no complaints. Fuck her.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago

I always saw Greene as a true believer, she believes horrible hate filled shit, but she actually believes.

The thing is, her hate filled beliefs don't match up with what MAGA actually believes, which is that certain white men get to make up the rules as they go along.

It just took her being shut out for the disconnect to appear.

She still believes in the hatred, but doesn't like the constant lying of those in her party.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 17 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

If she actually regretted any of it, she could've retained her seat and voted against MAGA.

Methinks this is much about attention as anything she did that was pro-MAGA.

[–] cogman@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

It's all to move for another seat. She's politically savvy. She'll run for Gov or president or to be a VP pick. Building distance from today's MAGA is just a calculated move to make her look more moderate.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 30 points 22 hours ago
[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, no shit. Welcome to the party, Marj.

The Republicans/conservatives hate this country and want to destroy everything about it that actually was built toward meeting any ideals, strip it for parts, and funnel all the money to the already rich. Appealing to the racists and xtian zealots only helps them meet this goal, even if only some of the elites may actually be xtian/racist.

And "maga" == conservatives == Republicans.

It was a lie that she intentionally and knowingly told thousands of times. I hope the trials don't show her any mercy

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 12 points 21 hours ago

Her breath still reeks of boot polish, tho'; there was a lot of lapping happening.

I wonder who have called this before her 🤔 … ho right every body with two brain cells

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (3 children)

Fuck you people and your low standards for making this person your ally simply because she is saying things now (that she probably doesn't even believe in) you like. Go ahead, stand with MTG.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Ally? That suggests both a specific intention and a longevity I can't imagine she's capable of.

I know I'm not. She's no Bernie Sanders, lol.

She's also still a racist, as per her regime-friendly reaction to Don Lemon's arrest. I find that intolerable.

[–] Restaldt@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

What do you mean campaigning with the Cheneys was a terrible idea?

Think about the handful of conservative votes we theoretically could've flipped by doing that!

[–] thlibos@thelemmy.club 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

That's right! Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the Greene! /s

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

All of her talk lately makes me wonder of she is trying to line up a 'save the republican party' presidential bid.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago

She's 100% going to try to launch some kind of personal "revival" conservative party like the Tea Party did way back when.

I hope she is very open about it and just calls it the "Trash Party" and instead of a donkey or elephant, their logo is an overweight American on a mobility scooter

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

This is the equivalent of a liberal podcaster or comedian being cancelled for saying or doing something stupid then immediately signing up for a new show at InfoWars.

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

MAGA turning on Trump is a possibility.

[–] SoftQuartz@anarchist.nexus 5 points 21 hours ago

something something broken clock...

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

What a fuckin’ genius.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

I guess some people just take about a decade longer than others to understand what's blazingly obvious.
