On Monday, United States Olympic skier Hunter Hess appeared to respond to President Donald Trump’s remark that he is a “real loser” for expressing mixed feelings about representing the U.S. The 27-year-old freestyle skier caught the attention of the president for his comments in a press conference in Milan on Friday. “It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now.

It's sad that our altheletes are better at speaking about politics than our president.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 20 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I was just coming to say his response shows way more tact and diplomacy than I could possibly muster in his shoes, and certainly more than Trump deserves.

Our athletes are better at speaking about politics than the so called "opposition" party

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 47 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The correct response any respectable self-respecting president would have made to the athlete's comments: "The man is American. In America we say what we want, that's what makes America great. He doesn't agree with me. That's okay too, disagreement is an American tradition. I have my job and he has his- and I wish him the best of luck in doing his. Make us proud Hunter!"

But no, we have "he's a loser." Yes Dumbald, the Olympian is a loser. Whatever you say...

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah... You, an Internet rando sound immensely more presidential than our actual president. This is why he had mixed feelings, the situation is legitimately embarrassing and shameful.

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 4 points 1 week ago

Beating mouldy bins with a hammer sounds more presidential than that fuck.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for not posting anywhere what his response was.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On Monday, Hess appeared to respond in a social media post, without mentioning Trump by name.

“I love my country,” Hess began, adding, “there is so much that is great about America.”

“[B]ut there are always things that could be better,” Hess went on. “One of the many things that makes this country so amazing is that we have the right and the freedom to point that out.”

He continued:

"The best part of the Olympics is that it brings people together, and when so many of us are divided we need that more than ever. I cannot wait to represent Team USA next week when I compete."

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today -4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Yes, thank you. But I've already read that as his initial comment.

What was his response to cheeto?

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

your getting downvoted but the title clearly is clickbait suggesting it has some sort of comment from hess about what trump said about him. so I get it at least.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah the hive mind does this on occasions. I try not to get too upset at the imaginary numbers.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its kinda handy really a bunch of downvotes are noticable and kinda highlights comments and I tend to give those a double check preciesly because of this kind of thing.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Same. Also why I don't delete my heavily ratio'd comments. I stand on business.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The comment says it is his response to Trumps comment.

The article also has his original comment if you're wondering what that was.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"LMFAO how bout we race around the Whitehouse fatass?"

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tell me how you didn't get your lazy ass off the couch to vote asshole.

[–] ssladam@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Either you're a bot, or you've been suckered in by their propaganda.

Think about it ... The first step was to divide right/left. Now that the left may be able to present an opposition, the new narrative is to divide the left.

You don't know that guy. You don't know how he voted. Just enjoy being on the same team and focus on what you'll do NOW to make things better

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

Sorry for coming back a day later.

But you gotta stop using "must be a bot" as a gotcha.

Accept that a real life person might disagree with you.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today -1 points 1 week ago

Publicly available profile. Yup, I must be a bot.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

America's response to Donvict should be:

Quiet, piggy!

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

While he doesn't have a FIFA peace prize to his name, I feel Hess's medals and awards are decent evidence that he's not a loser.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Headline: Olympic Skier Hunter Hess...

My brain: Hess, Hunter of Olympic Skiers

The most dangerous game.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

See and I just thought Hess had to hunt while on skis

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The James Bond-ish sniper image I got in my head after this comment made my night. Lol

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

HA! Shit is wild when they're on the bobsled track.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

An amalgam of biathlon pursuit, ski jumping and bobsled; I'd pay to see that.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'd like to see the orange jackass ski jump.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I think most people would be fine with any kind of jump from significant height.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Hell, I'd like to see him pay his own fucking way to the Olympics. The athletes did.

(The US does not subsidize its Olympic teams or athletes in general, they have to raise their own money or get some partial amount from a big donation.)

[–] spacebread98@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am honestly surprised he didn't mix up hunter Hess and hunter biden

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 3 points 1 week ago

Be probably did.

It's pathetic that President Bone Spurs is insulting Olympic athletes.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 9 points 1 week ago

The Orange Jackass saw the name "Hunter" and reflectively went on the attack.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why respond to what a human trafficking pedofile has to say

[–] Axeman666@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

This is what I'm saying. Who gives a fuck what felon and a pedophile thinks?
