Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Whelp, that's step one. Congrats. You've only got about seven billion more left until you're actually an acceptable human being.

Tucker Carlson, welcome to the resistance tucker-catboy

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 days ago

This is even more proof the democrats are indistinguishable from any other conservative party

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago

he is running

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

This is the start of his shift into liberalism, isn't it?

Tucker Carlson is going WOKE. I bet he's not even aroused by the green M&M anymore!

[–] Florn@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

Not even, he's just showing Zionist Republicans the ratline back to Thanksgiving dinner

So... He's formally joining the Nazi party?

A quibble.

Cheney needs to be at the top of the ticket. It's her turn.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 34 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yeah I don't believe he has any intention of running for office like some are saying. He makes bank off of his comfy podcasting gig, why would he bother?

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

trump ran to promote a tv show

[–] axont@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm not convinced Trump thought he was gonna win in 2016

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (3 children)

He probably wouldn't have were it not for his opponent both being extraordinarily terrible as well as literally working to position him to be in the race in the first place

It kills me that literally not a single person in this country other than me seems to remember the pied piper email shit, or cares about it. I just don't get it. If Trump is literally satan, and someone did sociopathic gaming of an election that backfired and let literal satan win, why the fuck does nobody blame that person??? Ffucking string her up as THE person whose singular decisions "destroyed american democracy" or whatever liberals say trump did

I'm gonna be real, y'all, sometimes I am just filled with the feeling that most people have less memory and ability to contextualize than even 2-year-ago LLMs. Trying to explain what is, to me, an extremely simple causal relationship linking Hillary Clinton, her campaign decision to have media contacts elevate Republican extremists, and Donald Trump... who was explicitly named in the memo... winning the election... trying to explain that to most people is like the Man-ray giving Patrick back his wallet meme

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

And who could forget the birther shit started in the dem primary by the Clinton campaign? Weird how it made its way into the Republican party via a long-time friend of the Clintons. 🤔

Yeah liberals have really bad memories. They've already forgotten about all the shit Bush did. Or how Obama continued all of Bush's policies instead of throwing him in Abu Ghraib. Or how Republicans piss and shit themselves over Monica Lewinsky as if they weren't all cheating on their spouses anyway. Or that Lewinsky was what? Like 22 at the time? They quickly forgot about #metoo and BLM once their people were being criticized.

It's intentional, or else they'd have to admit they have no principles and deliberately do evil shit on purpose.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I-was-saying about to say pied piper

the thing is the whole rest of the primary field was so rizzless i have no idea who would have won it. might've been him anyway.

[–] ziggurter@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It wasn't just the primaries, though. In order to boost him in the primaries, Hillary made him so fucking popular overall in the media and popular awareness that it couldn't have not helped him in the general election.

Anyway, if Ben Carson had won, we might at least have grain pyramids right now. LOL.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

lmao i forgot about ben carson. i just remember herman 999 cain

It might have but I think the american electorate is basically silly putty that will be shaped however each individuals chosen media will propagandize them to be and I think giving Trump shitloads of air time def had an effect

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Hey, the common refrain for many people was, for awhile, 'The difference between a liberal and a socialist is that a socialist has a memory longer than four years.' Back when most American leftists thought liberals just had good intentions but were just misguided by the elites.

This is by no means a new phenomena or new observation within by the left of liberal politics.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

proof that you don't need to think it's possible to do it

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (3 children)

he's also heir to the swanson TV dinner empire, so the guy was already born completely caked-up.

i think he just enjoys his platform and the position it gives him in the spectacle. why be a politician when you can already pressure politicans & have an adoring audience?

the swanson TV dinner empire

khamenei-what

[–] MarxMadness@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Arrogance, and/or intelligence community connections

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

[Tucker] was already born completely caked-up.

I'm glad I have aphantasia or I'd be having some really cursed mental imagery right now.

[–] BottleBoardBakon@lemmy.ml 25 points 2 days ago

[–] EdlritchEconomics@hexbear.net 28 points 2 days ago

His face in the thumbnail looks like he's transforming into the doctor from House MD, or am I seeing things?

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think calling House "The doctor from House MD" is hilarious actually

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's beginning to look like that one mouse from Stuart Little

[–] Pentacat@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Dr. House was in Stuart Little. This goes deeper than we think.

[–] RION@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

When someone says something so lupusphobic you gotta hit them with the vicodin stare

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago
