the guy talked about using Americans as someone who lives in the US is wrong there are two contents that make up North and South America.

I get so fruatrated at that splitting hairs argument.

Yes, the continents have those names.

But on those continents, there is only one country with America as the prominent part of their country's name. Only one country whose national anthem includes the phrase "God bless America". Only one country whose citizens refer to themselves as Americans.

If you say "Americans" to any non-pedantic person anywhere in the world they will think of one, and only one, country.
