This is about the Ambassador bridge being owned by Manual Moroun, a MAGA buddy who extorted $60M a year for trade.
He's thankfully dead, but his asshole family still has ties to Pedonald. Moroun was even sued by his own family.
This is a shakedown for the Morouns.
That bridge was paid for by Canada to help trade flow between the 2 countries. And Canada gave U.S. 50% control over the bridge as a partnership.....

All the well deserved vitriol aside, there's a really straightforward explanation for this. The Maroun family owns the competing Ambassador bridge, and has been using it to extort cross border traffic for a generation now. This competition is bad for them. And guess what? They're Trump donors. So this is just standard, run-of-the-mill gangster capitalism again.
While I realize it was built to facilitate trade (and paid for by Ontario & Canada), it seems like its existence is a security threat now seeing as those fat stupid yanks have designs on destroying us economically with an aim to annex us….the bridge should go.

Yes, the continents have those names.
But on those continents, there is only one country with America as the prominent part of their country's name. Only one country whose national anthem includes the phrase "God bless America". Only one country whose citizens refer to themselves as Americans.
If you say "Americans" to any non-pedantic person anywhere in the world they will think of one, and only one, country.

Canada paid for, and built the bridge. We should just ban any vehicle with US plates from using it. Although, no Canadians should be crossing anyways.

Oh ABSOLUTELY, those are our tax dollars at work, we need to milk the ROI on it now – and taking traffic from the Ambassador Bridge and cashflow from the Moroun family is just the extra high stick to the face we like to see.

There are no concessions to give and no trade deals to be made. A bad faith negotiator who has no checks and balances from courts or congress is less than pointless. Just shut it all down.

Now, the Canadian Government expects me, as President of the United States, to PERMIT them to just “take advantage of America!” What does the United States of America get — Absolutely NOTHING! Ontario won't even put U.S. spirits, beverages, and other alcoholic products, on their shelves, they are absolutely prohibited from doing so and now, on top of everything else, Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China — which will eat Canada alive. We’ll just get the leftovers! I don't think so. The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup. The Tariffs Canada charges us for our Dairy products have, for many years, been unacceptable, putting our Farmers at great financial risk. I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve. We will start negotiations, IMMEDIATELY. With all that we have given them, we should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset.
