This is just the latest trend of shitpost, I mean we had beans, we had Beef Stroganoff, and now people are posting Jemes, each time people say they are fed up with it after a couple days. This too shall pass.

[-] ARk@lemm.ee 31 points 4 months ago

Because new people are hopping on the bandwagon late so instead of the shit lasting a couple of days it becomes over a week of shit

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 43 points 4 months ago

Yep it's the low-effort AI generated stuff that's the problem. Some people just... aren't funny, sorry 😅

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 12 points 4 months ago

Same thing happens in the communities for AI images. Some user will make a picture of a clever idea, but then other users copy the idea and beat the dead horse.

I don't get it. They literally have the tools to make images of any idea, and they choose to use it to make somebody else's idea over and over.

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

Many people are insanely uncreative and rather dim.

[-] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 13 points 4 months ago

And want to be part of something, even if it's obnoxious.

Did you say piss is the next meme? Alright, well, I'll do what I can

[-] Krauerking@lemy.lol 7 points 4 months ago

I mean I'm pretty sure he agrees "this too shall piss" cause we all know it always comes down to piss.

Also, most new Reddit refugees at this point (and I feel like there’s been a minor surge lately because of all the IPO crap) probably haven’t internalized that there’s no system-wide karma here, and karma-whoring is entirely pointless in the context of the fediverse.

People join a shitpost group and are mad all the posts are shitposts

[-] drdiddlybadger@pawb.social 22 points 4 months ago

Gotta say, jeansposting is my least favorite lemmy trend so far

[-] fishos@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago

Bean posting was just a decades old rehash of a trend. It's really not much better.

At least with Stroganoff, it had a funny origin(Google Opinion Survey asking if you want "important updates about Beef Stroganoff").

Most of these are just "hrrr drrr this is dumb so let's trend it".

[-] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 14 points 4 months ago

It's very Reddit feeling that's for sure

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago

Lemmy is basically reddit. It's not any better than reddit was, it doesn't have some enlightened users etc. It's par for the course.

This is the Reddit replacement website. Everyone here probably came from Reddit. What do you expect?

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

The tankies and the Linux trans femboys who were here before us would disagree. But the mass influx cannot be ignored.

[-] maxenmajs@lemmy.world 41 points 4 months ago

The ai-generated images are too low effort and too easy to produce.

[-] Krauerking@lemy.lol 13 points 4 months ago

I mean that was definitely my complaint. Dude. You want a denim keyboard make it happen, this weird low effort crap mangled generated image crap ain't it.

Keep image generation for porn. Leave my shitposts real.

I was going to write this in one of the many many boring posts, but didn't want to make it more popular. I understand trend and too much time on their hands but deploying AI to spam same thing like this just gets boring after a few examples. Move on

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago

I enjoyed the first few but yeah once the AI - generated stuff came along it lost its charm for me.

[-] clearleaf@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago

You just have to let these things burn themselves out like an oil fire.

[-] No_Eponym@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

like an oil fire

I mean, there are options for oil fires...

Not sure if lecture about quality on shitpost is itself shitpost...

[-] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 15 points 4 months ago

I… don’t care…?

Such is the nature of the internet. It’ll run itself out soon and become established lore. Beans and beef stroganoff went through that progression too.

[-] amio@kbin.social 14 points 4 months ago

No no, they're awesome. Every one a masterpiece of modern comedic ingenuity. I mean, picking a random noun, then typing "randomnoun but it's jeans" into a shitty AI image generator, then doing it again a dozen times? Fucking genius.

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy, but this reminds me of Reddit's obsession with rage comics - except those were higher effort, incredibly. Maybe we can go back to the stroganoff? How about something with dead babies next? Bring the terrible Gërman Fïsh Mëmë back? Knock-knock jokes? Maybe people literally stepping on rakes over and over, as seeing the 700th jouch meme only feels like it?

Don't know whether to upvote for the comic being funny or downvote for the "you're not having fun the right way!" lecture..

Ah fuck it, I'll do the former.

[-] LucasWaffyWaf@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago

When half your feed becomes nothing but trousers and beans and planes, it gets really fatiguing after the umpteenth day of it in a row. It was amusing for a bit, but people have taken that ball too far for my own personal enjoyment.

[-] ArmokGoB@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 months ago

I'll take jeanposting over political memes 9/10 times.

Ehh, smaller community, so a little bit slower for trends to fade. I'm ok with it though; I don't expect nonstop-fresh content here and I like that. People are able to post without bot-mods rejecting every submission... makes people feel included. So you kinda get a slower trend-fade, as people come-up with ideas. I get your point, but no reason to be crass about it. Try and lift each other up and what-not

And your reaction is to post something that belong in the Comics community?

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago

It was a reference to shit. Apologies if, like the sheet, it was over your head

[-] SternburgExport@feddit.de 14 points 4 months ago

not saying kecessa is wrong but that comeback was fire

looks like you're asking not to farm a non-existent metric in order to keep up with another useless metric. I'd prefer ppl who participate than those who part

[-] Deceptichum@kbin.social 5 points 4 months ago

We’re so desperate to show we have OC that we beat every dead horse we see.

[-] jawa21 5 points 4 months ago

Being someone that actually tries to make the best Lemmy specific OC that I can, it genuinely pisses me off.
