I wish the media wasn't so focused on stuff like this. It's only feeding their egos and driving them to even further to out compete each other in the worlds biggest a-hole contest.

[-] bashbeerbash@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

but rich people literally live for the biggest a-hole contest

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

You’re right. Post downvoted. I don’t care.

[-] Miaou@jlai.lu 4 points 9 months ago

For every musk or bezos there are a hundred billionaires whom we've never heard of and who are just as greedy. I don't think it necessarily changes much

For the record it’s extremely unlikely that either are in fact the world’s richest.

Just the richest people dumb enough to talk about it.

[-] AttackPanda@programming.dev 32 points 9 months ago

Yeah I always think that we know their wealth because it is in shares of publicly traded companies but you know it’s some Saudi oil baron or Russian Oligarch that is actually wealthier. My guess is probably Putin takes top spot and then the Saudis.

[-] spaduf@slrpnk.net 16 points 9 months ago

Russian Oligarch that is actually wealthier

Putin himself has always been a strong contender

[-] bashbeerbash@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Saudis state oil factory is worth over a Trillion and all their wealth is sanction free.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

Most rich fucks use LLCs to hide their ownership of assets. (At least, from the public.)

If they’re privately owned, then there’s little functional difference, but you can use them to avoid reporting requirements (ie in a hostile take over.)

But then, also, there’s a lot of random LLCs on a random company’s ledger. Some of them are investment firms, and such, but some are also the assets of people like bezos or the Rothschild family.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Then there are leaders who essentially own everything in their country. Even if it is supposedly private property, it can be taken away at any time, meaning that it is really the leader's property- Saudi Arabia, Brunei, North Korea...

Zuckerberg and Gates and Buffett Amateurs can fucking suck it Fuck their wives, drink their blood Come on, Jeff, get 'em

[-] Langehund@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

sick keyboard solo AAAAHH—

[-] Grogon@lemmy.world 26 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Imagine losing to someone even though you are rich.

If I had all that money I'd just have more than Jeff. Honestly this is a no brainer. I wouldnt want to be second richtet person. Either richest person or nothing at that point.

Id just give away all the money and retire. Better thsn only being second

[-] xhieron@lemmy.world 17 points 9 months ago

I know, right? What even is the point. Congratulations, you're the number one loser. Might as well just quit.

[-] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Not sure what keeps these people going. I’d be retired if I hit a billion.

[-] ours@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago

For them, it's not about having enough money. It's about chasing power.

They are sick people.

[-] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 11 points 9 months ago

It's NOt ReAl MonEY THey HAvE In tHeiR BaNK acCouNTs. Or something like that. Also, monkey brain likes numbers going up.

[-] Akasazh@feddit.nl 7 points 9 months ago

Most likely the mindset that ensures you won't hit a billion.

[-] Miaou@jlai.lu 3 points 9 months ago

I thought the secret was to be a son of an imperialist slaver, guess I just need to pull myself up by the bootstraps

[-] ry_@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 months ago

I doubt they do a great deal tbh

[-] root_beer@midwest.social 3 points 9 months ago

Hoarding, addiction, that sort of thing

I’d get rid of it if I hit a billion, I don’t want to gaze into abysses

[-] yoz@aussie.zone 2 points 9 months ago

Lol same and i always wondered the same. Bunch of fucking weirdos tbh. The only people who will hangout with them are there for their money.

So stack Bezos ontop of Musk when we're going for our guillotine day two-fer.

I'm not into capital punishment but I'm 100% ok with this.

[-] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 20 points 9 months ago

They’re both insufferable.

[-] cmbabul@lemmy.world 20 points 9 months ago

Fuck them both, I think Elon is worse but at their level of terrible the difference amounts to a rounding error

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 46 points 9 months ago

Elon is only worse because Bezos doesn't share every thought in his head with the world.

[-] Ottomateeverything@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

He built his business by scamming warehouses... They're both dirt. Bezos just isn't as insecure and doesn't try to gloat where everyone can see his insanity.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

I agree. In fact, because he doesn't share his every thought, who knows what he believes? But Elon seems like he's worse.

[-] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 9 months ago

And he doesn't even need that part of Amazon at this point anyway, the real money is in AWS. ~~American Alibaba~~ The Amazon store site could disappear tomorrow and he probably wouldn't even feel it.

[-] comador@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Jeff Bezos USED to, back when Twitter properly existed.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 19 points 9 months ago

After clicking OP’s body link I now know that the CEO that sits over Hennessy is the 3rd richest man in the world and has more money than Mark Zuckerberg. Weird.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I mean, it's a whole lot more than Hennessey, but yeah.

[-] ours@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

It's a conglomerate with many of the really big French luxury brands: LVMH. The LV is for Louis Vuitton, the M for Moët, and finally H for Hennessy. And they have many other $$$ brands under their umbrella.

Hopefully this means I won't have to hear about Elon Musk in the news.

[-] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 8 points 9 months ago

I hope you are right, sadly there's an equal chance that the man baby will generate even more news.
