The ancient rule that men love war and women love warriors so that after each war an abundance of children easily exceeded war losses, while damaged cities were rebuilt and expanded in dynamic post-war reconstructions, seems to have been forgotten

What is this supposed to mean? War is OK because after it people can rebuild and reproduce?

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 29 points 7 months ago

The ancient rule that men love war

If only there were living survivors of the last great war in Europe who we can ask about whether they still love war.

Oh well, better send the young men out to die.

It's like when you prune some branches off a tree and it grows back stronger and prettier but only with human beings instead of branches.

[-] SugandeseDelegation@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 7 months ago

Reactionaries would unironically say this in the most matter-of-fact way possible

[-] Shrike502@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 7 months ago

If I had a nickel every time someone posted or said out loud that dumb meme about "hard men creating good times", I'd probably be bourgeoisie already

[-] D61@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

"hard men creating good times"

bottom-speak

[-] Shrike502@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 7 months ago

Could be "strong men", you're right

Then they will proceed to carpet bomb the tree and let corpos freely poison the water when placed in power.

For all the bullshit reactionaries spew about ubermensch, they have never even created ubermensch.

A.k.a. nazism

[-] Munrock@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 7 months ago

Well Josep Borrell said that Europe is a garden.

You prune a garden, unlike those savage unkempt jungles. And you're very selective about what you allow to grow in the garden.

🤢

I looked at the author's profile and wow, makes a lot more sense now how he'd arrive at such a twisted statement:

His most recent book is The Art of Military Innovation: Lessons from the Israel Defense Forces

His most recent book is The Art of Military Innovation: Lessons from the Israel Defense Forces

... or, "How not to run a prison colony."

[-] absolutefuckinidiot@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 7 months ago

This seems unhinged even for the telegraph

[-] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 10 points 7 months ago

"War makes me horny and maybe if enough normal guys die and I kill enough people I can get a gf"

[-] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 7 months ago

Just admitting that war is their kink

[-] Shrike502@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 7 months ago

Europe is a continent of pacificts

I'm sorry, did I fall into some parallel reality?

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 7 months ago

It's really fun to read a weapon dealer ghoul seethe about how European's military complex is a monopolistic inefficient pile of garbage

[-] PanArab@lemmygrad.ml 31 points 7 months ago

pacifists

did the meaning of the word change? Europe is not what I would consider as pacifists

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 7 months ago

I guess that's how Europeans see themselves? 😂

[-] SSJ2Marx@hexbear.net 9 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I think that's the closest thing to a coherent take here. Europeans don't "see" their imperialism as clearly as Americans do - as long as it's happening somewhere far away, like in Africa, then they can compartmentalize it - but commitment to NATO like this author wants would require them to raise substantial, visible forces, which they're not ready to do right now because unlike Americans they haven't been fed intense troopaganda for the last fifty years.

TBH I'm not sure I buy it. Euros might not be as bloodthirsty as Americans, but the Ukraine War pushed military budgets into the stratosphere. If it came down to it, Europeans would absolutely rally together to kill non-Europeans in the name of the Euro's strength as a currency.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 7 months ago

I think Europeans would be cool funding proxy wars and sending weapons, but I doubt there's appetite to go and fight themselves to be honest.

[-] KrasnaiaZvezda@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 7 months ago

I could see them wanting to fight if they continue thinking that there is no way they will lose. Perhaps while trying to get immigrants to fight for them too while saying that's good for immigrants.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 7 months ago

From what I've seen, public opinion is very much against the war in Europe. The ghouls running the EU will try anything they can to keep this going, but my expectation is that it's just going to result in their downfall in the end.

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 7 months ago

These assholes have 0 accountability, i despise them so much.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 31 points 7 months ago

Why fix NATO when you can use NATO's fiscal policies to plunge Europe further into austerity, deindustrialise them and push down labour costs

[-] SadArtemis@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 7 months ago

Good, may it go down in flames. NATO has contributed nothing to humanity but death and destruction.

[-] supersolid_snake@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 7 months ago

Absolutely correct, but I think that was the point of NATO.

[-] Red_Scare@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 7 months ago

Scroll a bit down and you see what it's about:

Europe’s welfare state grows as defence spending falls

This comes from one of the wealthiest nations in the world which let 5 thousand people freeze to death last winter cause they couldn't afford the rising heating costs.

Which also happens to be ruled by a monarch who's main job is gun trade.

[-] DankZedong@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 7 months ago

Ah the good ol 'we spend too much on welfare so we better let a few million of you guys die in a war' strategy of budget cuts.

[-] lil_tank@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 7 months ago

Europe’s welfare state grows as defence spending falls

Where? Which country?? Tell me, Telegraph ghoul, I want names

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 13 points 7 months ago

Europe’s welfare state grows as defence spending falls

Literally not true. It is only a couple of days ago Jens Stoltenberg, succdem Norwegian ghoul and chief political commissar of the NATO organisation, went on TV and bragged about how his merry band of American satellite states are spending more on war than ever.

[-] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 7 months ago

They say this like it's a bad thing.

[-] Red_Scare@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 7 months ago

its the torygraph how else would they say it

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 2 points 7 months ago

its the torygraph how else would they say it

"I say, my word, harrumph; these chaps are on the old sausage, what. This new generation is just a packet of fish and chips, what. Crumpets and tea, if the jolly old boy wants war, we haven't a thrupence of the old bangers and mash to thrash the old chum"

[-] GreatSquare@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 7 months ago

Europe would actually save money by disbanding NATO....

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 7 months ago

NATO is basically a protection racket that US set up after WW2 and that result in vassalization of Europe.

[-] Rasm635u@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 7 months ago

That's because NATO is rotten to the core

[-] lorty@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 7 months ago

What an utterly deranged article. From complaining about social spending, buying from national arms industry to even calling them pacifists for not wanting to deploy their armies to Ukraine. Guess everything would be gucci if they were buying American I guess?

[-] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 7 months ago

I believe there is a certain amount of money that could be removed from NATO to fix it

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 7 months ago

Okay this has to be one of the most ridiculous statements ive ever read. Europeans being pacifists 😂

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 7 months ago
[-] Drstrange2love@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 7 months ago

As if this wasn't intentional, nato has turned into a big hole for public expenses
