Ah, see this is why Trump is such a genius! He knows that over half of Usians are incapable of (or perhaps simply unwilling to) thinking past one step. So:

  1. Trump makes tariffs
  2. Costs increase because of Trump's tariffs
  3. Company increases price because of costs increases because of Trump's tariffs

Becomes:

  1. Company increases price...because Trump

speech-side-r-1who-did-this + frothingfashspeech-side-l-2 = "Why did they have to make it political!"

great point. its basically the same reason all these libertarians will say “the government is corrupt” but never think passed step one, to step two: “who is corrupting them?”

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 2 points 6 hours ago

They unironically think it’s unions and welfare recipients using their largesse and clout to punish the smol bean business owner.

Nothing my faction does is political, it's only the people reacting to us that makes it political. I don't know what all their problem is.

I'm not going to spend time searching for whatever articles was mentioned here, nor am I asking or expecting any of you to do it for me.

However, I must ask if anyone knows off the top of their head what Nintendo did to make it political? Is it just because they halted pre-orders and mentioned the tariffs as a reason?

Announce that you'd have to pay 27% extra on every console that you ship to America

"Oh holy shit! We're going to see if that effects the price of the console. Sorry, that price was before the 27% extra in costs. One second."

"OMG!! Nintendo is making this political!"

That's so hilariously, transparently nonsensical. It sucks that that's the point of the post otherwise I'd spend more time dissecting what I hate about it. “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe" - Albert Einstein

Barricading myself in my room and cutting the phone and internet lines to keep the politics out.

Edit: Wrapping the room in tinfoil to keep the waves out too.

Pulling a chuck McGill are we?

Wrapping myself in a space suit to keep the politics out

[–] Des@hexbear.net 9 points 13 hours ago

some people just like wrapping themselves in things

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 5 points 13 hours ago

You buy the tinfoil? That's politics! You can never escape!

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 57 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Critical support to Donald Trump for forcing legions of gamers to have to learn more about political economy

[–] Sebrof@hexbear.net 11 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why did they have to go and make the economy political?

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 10 points 13 hours ago

Well now that they aren't selling them I don't want one

[–] sawne128@hexbear.net 36 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I can't believe Reggie just put tarrifs on Yoshi's Island.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 12 points 14 hours ago

The Yoshi's take everything from us: even our Italian babies. And what do we get in return? Nothing.

They deserve it. I saw a Yoshi kidnap someone's baby for likely nefarious purposes.

Nintendo products are for children lol, no shade I love my 3ds, but nintendo isnt going to miss a few chuds

Normalize adults having fun and playing with “kid” toys

It’s sad how acceptable fun gets boxed into such a small range once society decides you have to be serious.

I think that’s why many people have kids. It’s socially acceptable to play with toys and generally just use the creative side of your brain, rather than min/maxing some MMORPG that is barely distinguishable from an actual job

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 7 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Well the whole market is driven much more by “family” spending than NEET chuds.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 8 points 13 hours ago

our games are increasingly less popular nowadays. The cause? Declining birth rates and the destruction of traditional family values.

[–] GeneralSwitch2Boycott@hexbear.net 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

According to a survey done by the Switch Weekly newsletter, which would probably skew more hardcore and less family than average although he seems to have pretty good reach with 3,700 responses.

40% were using a family plan for the Nintendo subscription (of the 77% total who paid for online at all). And 45% had more than one Switch in their household, so about 1/2 of the market being family driven would sound about right to me. The median amount spent on games was $35 a month while average was 52USD. 32 sounds closer to what a family might spend (a new game every 2-3 months).

https://switchweekly.com/survey/2024#yourswitch

Edit: Nintendo has a report from 2021. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2021/211105e.pdf

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago

So $35 x 12 comes out to $420 a year (har dee har har). At Switch 1 full $60 prices, that’s seven games a year. Assuming total spending stays flat, that’s 5-6 games a year at the new Switch 2 prices.

This isn't a new guy, this guy has been around since the gamergate years. You just swap the old two genders, white cis man and political for two countries, the US and literally everyone else

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Question on the mechanics of tariffs. Nintendo (or any foreign company that deals in the US) sells consoles to American retailers. If a Switch is built in Japan and Nintendo ships it to the US, are they paying the duty? What if they're not buying it, they're just shipping cargo Nintendo owns to Nintendo America?

[–] determinism2@hexbear.net 4 points 11 hours ago

Tariffs are an import tax, usually collected at the point of entry.
