He was fawning over Mr. Peanut being a main character, sitting in front of his wall of funko pops wearing a Disney sweatshirt, saying "You ready for this one? Mr. Peanut. Yep. The only thing I want to do on youtube is a niche eco-Marxism podcast without any care for viewership. The moment you blow up into Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't though, you have to play a guy. Everyone on Well There's Your Problem has to be their character for the weird parasocial relationships their audience has. You have to have trademark phrases and a staged production because your audience doesn't want to learn unless neuron-activation. There's drama and multiple layers of parasites who feed on it, each of them driving more negative traffic to your channel to boost their own. And then the algorithm arbitrarily punishes you if you don't show it your face making a cartoon reaction to your video about a cholera epidemic.

The moment you have to become a cartoon that sells products which only further alienate your viewers, youtube is evil. There's very little room for channels that don't participate in an evil feedback loop which dehumanises them.

The ideal youtube channel is Clickspring. He's put out two videos so far this year, both about making complex clockwork parts using a handmade bronze age bow lathe. He's never shown his face or taken a sponsor spot, and every video is absolutely beautiful.

JFC is this just an elaborate bit? Seems almost too on-the-nose. I get it that he's milking the algorithm and likely making more money in a month than I'll make in my entire life. But at that point with that much fuck you money, I'd retire from Funko Slops and switch to something more enjoyable.

I've gotten my algorithm in a sweet spot where it only recommends Master and Commander along with videos that would appeal to someone who watches Master and Commander. I can't poison it by finding out.

I'm wondering if Funko Pops are a psy-op by miniature wargames, scale model, and gunpla manufacturers to make customers feel less ashamed of their piles of shame.

I got a couple of Funkos from back in the day. Even back then I felt a little gross. The walls of crap that would end up in landfills just so I could get a dumb mini from some game or show I liked.

They sort of stare me down in the case now. It almost ages itself the point where I was like, nah. The five or six I own are already too much. But a couple of them are gifts from my partner, so it would be worse to declutter them
